Whats the purpose of a linklist?

I was told to launch a linklist but I was curious what the purpose of one was? I think I know but im not for sure so I thought id ask here. My reasoning would be that you would place other peoples websites for free and they would place a link/banner on there website and you would also add your affiliate websites on your linklist to direct traffic to your affiliate content and also SE hits is this correct? Thanks in advance to whomever replies |boobies|

Greenguy 2006-02-22 09:29 PM

While that is correct in a nutshell, it's a little more involved than that :)

I think that these days, you really need to have a background in Free Sites if you wanted to run a decent Link List that surfers would enjoy. So let's start off with the obvious question....do you know what a Free Site is?

tonya 2006-02-22 09:37 PM

Hey greenguy I would say yes but maybe what I think is a freesite could be wrong so Ill show you a sample of mine and maybe that will tell if I actually do or not lol.

I just do one because otherwise I wouldn't know what to do with all these computers.

That and what Green said :)

Greenguy 2006-02-23 08:46 AM

Yup, that's a Free Site :D

I'm just gonna throw out a bunch of stuff that you'll need to think about if you're gonna start a Link List:

General Link List that covers all the major niches? Niche specific with categories of those niches?

List of categories (based on the above)

Script/admin for submitters to use to send you sites & for you to use to review & keep track of things.

Rules/guidelines for the sites you're listing.

Search Engine stuff (I don't see any on this free site, but I do see it on your main site, so I assume you know a little & just forgot to set up the Free Site for potential SE benefits)

There's probably a 100 other little things that you have to consider as well (php or html, banner rotator, site design, etc)

***

Also, while I have you here, I have a question about the affiliate program. Does the link code we get form Epoch go to http://www.tonyasfanclub.com/ or is there a clean version of the tour that doesn't have ads & links & top lists & whatnot?

What other promo material do you have? Banners? Hosted Galleries or Free Sites? Free content? I didn't see any info on the webmaster page :(

To add to what the Greenman said above, you'll also need....patience.

A linklist is not going to be instantly popular nor proftiable. Make sure it's something you want to build for the long haul. People have told me it will take about two years for you to start seeing decent returns.

yes it goes to my website tonyasfanclub.com. I honestly didnt think my tour was that "unclean" lol maybe a little. I have banners, hosted galleres and freesites. Once you sign up it will have a link to go to with my content. Im doing pretty good for being a solo website and Ive never had any affiliates advertise mywebsite. Every sale has come from me advertising, banner trades simple things. Everythign I know from my designing, coding, banner trades and all that I self taught myself over the past 3 years so I think im doing pretty good for never being gone to college for this stuff, but I also know there is a ton more for me to learn. After considering linklists I dont thinK i am ready for that so Im not sure what ill venture to as of now. Right now my affiliate site Im just doing text/banner exchanges and thats about it right now, I also submitted to search engines and did basic meta tag.

Just a little advice (and I've given this advice to many amateurs in the past) Make a copy of the tour that is clean & let affiliate promote the site that way.

I know your current business model works & I would not change it, but add the option of a clean tour that has no blind links, banners for other programs, link trades, etc. There's not a lot of webmasters (around here, anyway) that would send traffic to the current tour because of all the traffic leaks, which are all lost sales :(

Take the tour pages, make a copy of them clean them up so that it's all about you & offer that as an option for affiliates :)

Just a suggestion that'd probably take you 30-60 minutes to do & would enable you to branch out into another area of webmasters |shake|

Assuming this is all about getting sales to your site, I'd say your time would be MUCH better spent getting your affiliate program in order as best you can. Basically we want a large variety of promotional tools/content and tweak the shit out of your site so that it converts well. It's a lot harder then it sounds but a lot of it can be outsourced fairly cheaply. Once you've got those ducks in a row, and in the meantime, get your name out there. Post on message boards like this one and others, make friends with other similar paysites and trade galleries, etc. In the end you might be giving away 40%, but keeping 60% of lots of sales made by affiliates will fill your pockets up a lot faster then 100% of a few occasional sales made by putting a bunch of time/money/effort into getting a linklist up and running properly.

Just my $.02

Wow thanks for the advice GG I never even thought of that, I guess I assumed all traffic had to come straight to my main domain tonyasfanclub.com I didnt even think It was ok to make a copy of my tour (example: tonyasfanclub.com/freetour1/index.htm)and take out all the links/banners/programs/link trades ect. Ill definately do that right now and also add more content for potential webmasters, Thanks again

tonya 2006-02-23 07:38 PM

So I duplicated my tour and cleaned it up. Ill add that to my affiliate program so they can offer the cleaner tour with no traffic leaks :)

I am not only a fan of yours tonya but a webmaste as well... I think Green Guy had the right advice for you and personally did the same thing to my site when I built my tours for our amateur sites...
The new tour you created though still has leaks
Watch Me Live on Cam on any site below: NiteFlirt, iFriends or ImLive

those are all PAYSITES that a partner will not get a slae for if the surfer joins those sites...
Also the links to JerkOffMaterial... great site for traffic, but a site that distracts the traffic from a sale...

you can put your masterstats onto the clean tour... and I think you could also put your webmaster links on the tour to your program... maybe GG can help here... as I am still in progress of getting my system going

tonya 2006-02-24 01:33 AM

Hey pindilly thanks for the advice I am removing those now :)

picXX 2006-02-24 03:22 AM

The site looks nice :)

Just one advice, you can move that cyber patrol, netnanny and icr buttons down, above the 2257 statement.

Should allso tell you that most affiliates dont like mailgathering on the tourpages ;)

Nice tour:)

Greenguy 2006-02-24 06:48 AM

That looks much better - I'm signing up now |shake|
