Sad Day

I remember hearing it on the radio and just not believing it.

A Sad Day

I remember this clearly.

I was just a kid, and was living in NYC - the whole town shut down.

Of course it affected the whole world, but NYC was the center of my universe and I was amazed at how visibly my mom was shaken as well as everyone else.

Beatles songs and John Lennon songs were a staple of my childhood.

A sad day indeed! :(

My roommate was a nurse at Roosevelt Hospital. We got a call from her co-worker at around midnight.. i grabbed my 2 yr old son and walked down to the Dakota *about 16 blocks* as we walked it started snowing still we were walking with hundreds of people who were compelled to leave their apartments and walk to his place. and there in the snow and the freezing cold, with my son on my shoulders, we all joined hands and were singing Imagine, & give peace a chance. I'm sure there were others but those are the 2 i remember the most.

As a resident of the upper west side it was very common to see them, John & Yoko with their children walking, shopping, playing in the park. They, he especially, always nodded when he recognized someone from the neighborhood.

His death was one of those moments that you never forget where you were when you heard.

It was one of those things where you will never forget where you were. I remember where I was when the first space shuttle blew up, when the fed building in OK blew up, of course the twin towers and I hate to say it but when JFK was shot. Nobody close to me believes I remember JFK getting shot but I do remember walking in and seeing my mother sitting in front of the TV and crying. I may have been young but I knew something bad happened.

His death was a year before my birth, but I can imagine the pain that so many feel. His music has lived forever, and he's been an inspiration to so many.

RIP John Lennon.

I was 8 and remember very clearly.. Ybor City in Tampa Fl. just as school was letting out. On the walk home, people were shouting out of their cars, crying on the sidewalks. We had just moved there so my father could start a church/school for immigrant cubans. the funny thing is, after my mother died in august this year, we found a box with old Life magazines with issues of JFK, MLK, Bobbie, Moon Landing, 1st Shuttle flight, the Challenger, March on Washington, Selma to Montgomery etc. Really interesting to read though them and see the ads and the editorials.

9-11 is this generations Kennedy.

I remember I was at a Jump-rope-a-thon at my school (I was in 5th grade) when they made an announcement over the radio.

Think I'll pop on Sgt. Peppers.

What I remember most about it was turning to the cartoon in the paper the following day. The cartoonist had not been in any sort of mood to do a "funny", so he just drew a picture of a lone spotlight on an empty stage. It was one of the saddest drawings I have ever seen, and I think it said it all.
