repeated calls = your a victim

Funny thing happened last night while I was watching the constant gardener on DVD.

We got a phone call, well, my wife actually answered the phone and it was for her, so guy with a very heavy accent, she couldn't understand him, only that he was looking for her, by name and then talked real fast (remember the accent?) and she couldn't understand a thing he was saying.

She stopped answering the phone, which, for some reason, I felt was a mistake, so we started answering the phone again and now the guy wasn't talking, just silence, she'd hang up and a few minutes later, it repeated itself.

This went on for awhile when one of the calls was an 800 number, well thats different we thought, it turned out to be a western union operator questioning a charge we had just made

we didn't make any charge

quick call to the bank and card was canceled

one charge of $70 went through but thanks to fraud protection on the account, we will get that money back.

I guess you can figure out why the need for the many calls we got from him, he was trying to keep the phone line busy so western union could not call and verify any of the information of the charge.

I had two phone numbers for him on caller id so i went ahead and decided to give the guy a call, we spoke briefly and often as I am persistent and he kept answering his damn phone! He was even polite enough to get ATT to give me a relay call so that I might better understand him (and I suspect so he could get a word in edgewise, i was in a sarcastic mood last night and my sense of humor was showing) however what he said on the phone was note all that polite, apparently what engrish he does know is all fairly foul, but he did call me a kid which at 39, felt kind of good.

I don't know about protocol here but I'd be happy to give you all his phone numbers, if you have free long distance like i do I am sure he would love to hear from you LOL however, I am not sure if the verizon number sold as a netzero VoIP is still working, they are engaged in an investigation on that number at the moment.

any way, sorry to take up so much space, but I thought it was interesting, I thought others might too :)

Jim
