opinions please! members.mysite.com vs. www.mysite.com/members/

when setting up a members area, what is a better format??

members.mysite.com vs. www.mysite.com/members

most big programs that I see are using a sub domain.

what are the advantages?

any ideas?

thanks in advance.

There are other reasons, but one thing that using a subdomain allows is having your members area on a completely different server. That way your tour pages are not slowed by what's happening in the members area, and the members area isn't slowed down if you get heavy traffic to your tour pages.

Simon makes a good point about keeping the load times fast, ect.
Im not one for change, so i personally stick with using /members.

However this has left me thinking, so thanks Simon
