Adbrite?

Ok... a few months ago I was looking at doing some mainstream stuff and I decided to use AdBrite as opposed to AdWords. I was never felt very good about doing mainstream so I slowly converted that site into a daily media site that promotes adult sites.

Now, I read somewhere here that people were warned about using AdBrite. Can anybody fill me in as to why?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the deal might be with AdBrite. I use the adult portion AVN Ads and have made some money with it. They are specifically for adult ads. Maybe using an actual AdBrite account (as opposed to the AVN Ads account) might violate the TOS. I know with Google it would violate their TOS.

Do a search & read a few threads - you'll find all kinds of opinions.

tortus32 2006-03-27 10:51 PM

I recently stopped using AdBrite & AVN.

They're one and the same. If you sign up for AdBrite and check off that you want to run adult ads, you automatically get switched over to AVN.

Anyway, I was told that these people were supporting fusker.com, a skimmer site that steals bandwidth.

People got on their case and it took quite a bit of bitching to get them to drop them.

If you can make money out of it you shouldn't care what people think about it. Trying them is a good way to find out if it's worthy :)

Who you choose NOT to do business with says as much or more than who you do business with.

ClickBuster 2006-03-29 12:27 AM

Toby, are you suggesting that nobody should be working with AdBrite? Is this a speculation or you have something to support that kind of statement? Did I completely missunderstood you?

Again, if you can make money out of it YOU SHOULDN'T CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT IT. This means that many people will tell you to stay away from them, others will say that they make good money with them. In the end it requires some individual experience to find out if they work for you or not - end of story.

I personally don't use AdBrite, cause I don't have the kind of sites to use them on. Tho, I've been thinking about it and if I have the right site, they just may be the right ads program for it.

Toby 2006-03-29 12:45 AM

Doing business with a company that supports cheaters and thieves means that you also indirectly support those same cheaters and theives.

What other people think isn't the issue, it's what the association says about you that is the issue. Are you saying you don't care that they support cheaters and thieves?

ClickBuster 2006-03-29 02:53 AM

Currently there're many people claiming that 35% or more of the Google ad clicks are fraud and that Google's not doing anything about it. What now, should I stop using it? Would you stop using it?

There're many cheaters promoting the very same programs that you use. Many of them get caught, others don't. Check your mail, there're shitloads of spam and probably you've seen half of the promoted programs. Many of these programs don't give a shit about spam, even the opposite - it's one of the biggest parts of their revenue.

Honestly - saying that AdBrite are cheaters cause Fuskers use them is meaningless, because there're tens of 1000s of honest webmasters using them as well - does this make them cheaters? Not to mention the fact that AdBrite guys disabled fusker's account, so how are the supporting them exactly?

Toby 2006-03-29 06:25 AM

Read the other threads re: adbrite and fusker. It's not just the fact that sites like fusker use them. All of this has been discussed several times already, I'm not going to go into it all again.

tortus32 2006-03-29 06:42 AM

I already learned my lesson and dropped them.

RawAlex 2006-03-29 11:40 AM

Clickbuster, it isn't just as question of "fusker uses them so they are bad", but that the principals of adbrite had the balls to come here and defend fusker and their involvement as a good thing. It isn't just that someone snuck in the back door so they kicked them out, they had no intention of removing fusker from their programs (in fact, they had setup with fusker to be the default ad program for new fusker installs).

As I said to Tortus is the past: Do what you like, but don't be surprised if you have a harder time getting link trades or listings for sites with adbrite on them.

Oh well, then I'm sorry for wasting your time guys :) I was just trying to be logical, but I've never read thru the whole adbrite/fusker thread. My bad.

bunky2u 2006-03-29 01:02 PM

Well after searching (thanks, GG) and reading about the whole deal, I can see where the "bad deal" is.

I am glad I dropped them, and started pushing porn on that site. =D

tortus32 2006-03-29 02:56 PM

Does anyone know of a similar service who you can sell banner spots through (not just text links) like AdBrite does, and is Ok with adult stuff ?

tortus32 2006-03-30 09:01 AM

I guess it's a secret?

Thanks!

I hope fusker hasn't dealt with any of these yet - lol!

I'll contact both of them and ask their policies concerning adult sites.

tortus32 2006-04-04 07:38 AM

I signed up an adengage.com, got approved and set everything up.

Well, check this out people:

http://www.adengage.com/create_ad.cfm?site_id=3917&fd=y

Fusker is on Adengage.com as well!
Do I need to drop adengage now too?

tortus32 2006-04-04 08:06 AM

I already emailed them about it.
Should I start painting the picket signs?

tortus32 2006-04-04 08:53 AM

Bump!!!

RawAlex 2006-04-04 12:34 PM

In the end, if they are on fusker, you will find it very difficult to get trades with informed people.

Alex

tortus32 2006-04-04 12:38 PM

I'm going to stay with th other post...
