Sexpc.com

Did anyone get any notification about them changing the whole site? I did submit a dozen sites to them when they first started and that was it. Time to track and remove their links |angry|

XPorn 2006-04-05 11:31 PM

Thats what happens when sponsors get into the traffic game....don't they know to leave that to us ;-) j/k sorta.

MrYum 2006-04-06 12:13 AM

to blame someone else?

Guess I missed something, a sponsor bought the site? Or has owned it? Is it just me or does there seem to be a trend here. A trend I'm not crazy about. Course probably happens or is happening more than I know.

That's the one that PimpRoll owned, I believe. The problem now is, Tom is going to have to come here and try to explain what the hell happened and take a beating that isn't fairly his. I assume that they made him the front man of that project, then probably figured out that there are no quick rewards on a link list and pulled the plug in response. It's easy to blame Tom, but let's face it, it was most likely a PR owner that has done this and left the affiliate rep out to burn for it.

CrazySy 2006-04-06 09:16 AM

UW, to be honest I think this was their plan from the start. If they thought that the link list is not generating any revenue and is a pain in the ass to maintain, then they would have sent an email to their submitters/affiliates to notify them about this change rather than just change everything around quietly. I just realized I had submitted 50 sites in bulk and had put their links on every single one but that's cool, becaue I just removed most of those links from my sites and will have the rest removed shortly.

You may very well be right about this being their plan. I really hope you're not though. I'm a fairly negative guy (you may have noticed), but I hate to think that a trusted program would do that. And you are definately right about the lack of notification. That's pretty damn unacceptable. I'm an outsider looking in as I have never submitted to them and had no link swaps, it's an ugly situation at best.

MrYum 2006-04-06 11:00 AM

Wow...kinda surprised they haven't put in a response here yet |loony|

I spoke with Dave last night and was told the site had been given to a webmaster to maintain. Obviously, he made some significant changes to the site without notifying anyone. From what Dave said, at this point PR has nothing to do with sexpc any longer.

Originally when the site was started, Dave told me it was his baby...which was why I had no qualms about putting up a trade with the site. While he didn't say so last night, I'd suspect the time involved in growing a link list got to be too much and that's why the site was handed off to one of their webmasters.

I've already removed the trade I had up. Does really suck that no one was notified, but not surprising the guy is trying to unfairly hang on to the linkage |angry|

Carl 2006-04-06 07:46 PM

Well this sucks, I submitted to it pretty much the whole time the site actually worked....

If another webmaster now runs it and not pimproll why are the ref ID's for pimp1000?

Good point...I hadn't noticed that id number...not cool at all :(

Oh well, I alerted them to this thread. Action or inaction as the case may be, is up to them at this point. Definitely not good from a public relations standpoint though.

It's really fucked from a PR standpoint. Better off coming here and taking the blows instead of waiting for people to get pissed and start pulling affiliate links. This shit has a bed tendancy to spin out of control when not handled properly. You just wake up one morning and your program name looks like this ******** on the boards.

PR_Tom 2006-04-07 10:15 PM

Hey sorry guys n gals, I forgot to post here yesterday when I was asked to and no boardtracker notice. Damn.

Yep, the site is not a link list anymore, and I needed to remove my link trade too like everyone. Looks like it just wasn't something that was going to keep flying, and I did mention initially that it would need basically a full time reviewer/manager.

If anyone needs help changing links to another site or something, I'm willing to help if I can.

I can also link to everyones sites on some pages of my own, although I admit they dont get a lot of traffic. Token gesture maybe, but an honest one. Let me know where you want me to link to and I'll add them right in to a couple of root index pages.

Like UW said, it's really not something I was hands on with as far as maintaining or reviewing or anything, but I did neglect to drop everything to come post. Mr Yum did though, so thats cool thanks.

PR_Tom 2006-04-07 10:18 PM

Oh, the pimp1000 is a house account, the site is going to come into play in some new venture, but I dont have all the details on it yet.

PR_Tom 2006-04-07 10:26 PM

Oh, nobody made me the front man, UW. I come here and read and post like I have for a long time on my own (or if I get a board tracker notice) and I posted here about it voluntarily. I told them I know where quality free site builders post and read and exchange ideas and such, which is here. I've also tried to voluntarily get some advertising dollars for the board here too, but thats really not my job so I dont want to cross too many lines there. ;)

Again, sorry folks. I heard basically when Mr Yum spoke to Dave and Dave asked me to post and I was working with some people at the time and plum forgot! doh..

I'll be happy to not only give people some front page links, but if you have some no-recip or even recip versions of free sites, email me a bulk list and I'll list them on a site I have. Sites would randomly rotate in their niche as I auto-update the site every other day or so.
tom at pimproll.com, and if you could include your GG&J board name and niche.

Or what else could I do? Let me know.

Robbo 2006-04-07 11:08 PM

Flashback to the year 2000. One night I was sitting trying to think of what domain name I would buy first. After making a list and checking whois etc I decied on hmmmm none other than sexpc.com. I thought my what a great name. So I went ahead and started the registration process with a big name registrar.A few days went by and I was not hearing anything so i took another look to see what was going on. What I found was the name listed as registered to the registrar and the very next day transfered to someone in BC Canada. I consider it my first case of being shafted in this biz. :) Someone obviously had intercepted the request and thought the same as I did that it had potential.

Just thought I would share that tidbit.

PR_Tom 2006-04-08 12:38 AM

Wow Robbo, thats quite a tidbit!
Sounds sucky to me, but I dont think anyone in PimpRoll is in British Columbia, it's in Windsor Ontario. Although I see the original whois creation was back in feb 2000.
I know you didnt explicitly say you thought it ever was, but implicitly I guess.
What registrar was it so people can avoid them?
