Any WP RSS Aggregator Plugin Suggestions?
I'm trying to find a simple plugin for WordPress, but I've tried two and they haven't worked. firstRSS does nothing for me - and I don't know why. The code for aggRSS shows on my page instead of the RSS feed. Joy. I assume that I'm fucking up somewhere along the way, so I must need a retard-friendly aggregator. Any suggestions?

Sorry, it took you more than 2.5 seconds to reply, so I've chosen to use an independent aggregator. I'm testing it on Cleo's feed and it's really easy - just the way I like it. |
Useless, there are a couple of pay products out there that are very good, and there are any number of plugins and freebies that work more or less, depending on your way of looking at things.
I chose to use a freebie one because I liked the code and knew I could fuck with it slightly. If the project works out (and it appears to do okay) I will likely move to a pay solution (like rss2blog or similar) so that I can gain even more control over the content on the page. Aggregation is difficult mostly because different bloggers have different styles of content, and not all of it is easily digested. It is an interesting project, put it that way :) Alex |
I use a little php script that works great for me. Since it's php, could be used on any blog or webpage. I've used it with a few different feeds, i.e. feeds from different blog platforms, all worked fine.

Have you checked out CaRP?
There's a pretty powerful free version. http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/ |
I get a headache everytime I try to read the documents for Carp.
ronnie, you available this weekend? I'm gonna be playing around with that script you use...again and would like to be able to seek your advice when and if I run into problems. |

Plus, it performed the function I needed it to do. I still have to see how difficult customizing it will be. I'd like to limit it to only the newest update from each RSS feed, but it seems to want to list everything from a feed in row. |

I broke down and bought evolution. The plugins in it make it really powerful, especially the save feeds to database bit. I recently started messing with joomla, www.joomla.org , too. It has a plugin that does the same, archiving feeds to categories and allowing for manipulation of the archived data... virtually unlimited content. I'm no guru by any means and struggle to get things figured out, but i'm open to help anyone that may need it... just PM |potleaf| |
Here's my follow-up...
I've ended up finding a combination of WP plugins to do perform the function I was hoping for. I'm using FeedWordPress for RSS syndication along with the_excerpt_reloaded for pagination. I only have two feeds added thus far, but it's seems to be testing quite well. I had to drop Gregarius since there really wasn't any form of pagination, which meant that there was no way to control post length. With the_excerpt_reloaded, I can limit post length and force readers to go to the feed's originating site in order to read the entire post. And bingo was its namo. |thumb |
I have tried a few, none of them totally satisfy me, so I am starting to learn more and more about the actual guts of wordpress. It is really interesting to see how the code really works. There is a ton of very good things in here, with a few really weird concepts that take some getting use to.
