The Da Vinci Code

I was having lunch with some co-workers today when an ad for The Da Vinci Code came on TV. So I asked "are yall (cause that's what we say in the south) going to see this when it comes out?

Five of six said no, based only on the fact that their church sent them a letter telling them not to see the film.

I asked if any of them received a recipe for kool-aid in the same letter. . . . they didn’t find that as funny as I found their churches making entertainment choices for them. |crazy|

Religion...pffft...buncha brain washed fucktards |loony|

Maybe they didn't think your kool-aid comment was funny, but I think it's freakin hilarious :D

RawAlex 2006-05-17 12:13 AM

Actually, the brainwashed fucktards are in the media, hyping the living crap out of this. I caught about 1 minute of one of those entertainment shows on tv today, and their "lead story" is the countdown to the movie coming out.

TURN THE FUCKING HYPE MACHINE OFF. Doesn't anyone get it? having the church freak out is the best promotion this movie will ever get. The 5 out of 6 that won't see it in the theatre will probably actually BUY the DVD so they can watch it quietly at home where nobody will see.

HYPE HYPE HYPE... It fucking sucks.

|thumb Got my vote too. Of course, I thought "cause that's what we say in the south" was pretty funny also.

1. It's scary that any organization will send out letters telling paying members that they should not see or read a fictional story because it might make them ask questions about the organization. That's why religion and education do NOT mix.

2. It's very scary that democracy is based on freedom of speech but the churches are fighting against it and their members probably consider themselves patriots when they're really the enemies of democracy.

3. It's even more scary that grown adults will pay attention to the letter.

4. It's even scarier that some of these grown adults are allowed to fucking breed.

5. I think that you should send them all some red kool-aide

docholly 2006-05-17 09:30 AM

Right next to my booth at the swap is a minister who constantly tries to save me.. i guess he thinks he's better than my dad.. anyway.. the most pissed off i ever saw him was when i referred to his bible as a nice piece of literature with several good fiction stories in it.

Even though the Da Vinici Code is a fictional account and there are many discrepencies in it, I think that the alternative scenerio it presents is as plausable as the one we've been fed for centuries. I mean seriously the virgin birth? People living to 900 years old? Women giving birth at age 90??

If you note my current avatar and quote.. (2 different dan brown stories) i will be at the midnight show on Thursday/Friday. Of course I'll also be at the midnight show for X-Men the following week as well. May the Source be with you. |buddy|

Interestingly enough Docholly, I found the Da Vinci Code matched my beliefs more closely then the bible even though I know it's fiction. The bible was mass produced by men of power and history has shown over and over again that men of power alter the truth to suit their own needs as that's how they stay men of power.

Jim 2006-05-17 11:36 AM

I love that Ian McKellen said this moring on the Today Show that the Bible should carry a disclaimer saying that it is "fiction."

Don't know if you get these guys over there, but last Thursday there was a guy in my local pub selling the obviously bootlegged copies of this film on dvd. £5 (about $9) each.

Haven't decided if I'll see it yet, though I'll probably wait until it get's released on dvd. I thought the book started pretty well but got a bit repetitive and a bit shit in the last 1/3rd. JMHO of course.

Love Deception Point & Digital Fortress though :)

I liked Digital Fortress and Angels & Demons. Deception Point started out pretty good but i figured it all out about 1/3 through the book..so the rest was just filling. I hate that. Likewise i thought Da Vinci Code could have ended just after the London arrival.

Really Angels and Demons is really my favorite and I'd like to see that made into a movie especially since it pre-dates the Da Vinci Code. |roses|

I was watching a show last night on the bible code. Now that’s some cool shit. I think it was written by aliens so they know when we are really smart enough to cultivate. I'm just hopping one day my theory will be proven correct. We are just entertainment for the aliens who put their DNA inside monkeys just to see what happens over the years. Of course the main motive is to just sit back, wait till our brain develops to the point where we talk to each other with thoughts, and then we become their slaves. Well I'm sure I'll be dead by the time this happens, but if I'm not then it's time for me to grab my bible and pray lolol.

I hear we taste great with just a little seasoning lightly toasted with a ray gun.

JoeBlack 2006-05-17 09:28 PM

They said don't go see The Passion of the Christ and look what happened.

docholly 2006-05-17 09:53 PM

Yeah remember The Last Temptation of Christ where Willem Defoe lusted over Barbara Hershey:

From IMDB:

Quote:

The film attracted controversy not only in the United States, but also internationally due to the frontal nudity (especially from Jesus) in the crucifixion scenes, and the fact that Jesus had a sexual relationship with Mary Magdalene.
It could be said that the Da Vinici code is taking that a step further and providing a conclusion to that lust.

Tommy 2006-05-17 11:22 PM

I love debating religion

one of my favorite things to do and I am VERY GOOD at it

but the jesus freaks always get so upset with me

I love that the church doesnt want people to go see it
I just hope its a huge block buster
A HUGE BLOCK BUSTEr!!!

Oh please god let it be a block buster

RawAlex 2006-05-17 11:51 PM

I just saw some dude from the Belgium wing of Opus Dei saying his thing on the news yesterday. I was surprised he didn't start laughing himself because all the BS he was preaching :)

"What's in The Da Vinci code is fiction, what's in the bible happend for real!"

uhu...

SirMoby 2006-05-18 06:13 AM

I was watching an interview with two members of Opus Dei last night and they let it slip a few times how people devote their lives to serving Opus Dei instead of serving God.

We can never tell Cleo how much we worship her or her head will become huge and she'll make us all buy macs.

We got so many of these guys in our town the average price is $5 and you can get 5 for $10.
Personally, I like religion of all flavors and have studied for years, along with magic and paganism, etc. What most people don't know is that the general theory of the DvCd and its connection to knights templar/masons/insert your group has been around cirulating in the undercurrent forever. Its not new and not novel. This is usually the thing that bugs me about super religious people or even moderately religious, they don't know their own history. I also have a friend in Opus Dei and he's aways trying toget me to join. In my opinoin they never had a whit over the Jesuits in terms of wealth, secrets, and power. Its also fascinating to me that Catholics in particular don't have a clue that within the umbrella of the church there is a wide range of "groups" that hold there own unique take on the whole thing albeit quietly.

docholly 2006-05-19 08:35 AM

I saw the midnight show last night.. It was pretty faithful to the book.. which i personally thought should have ended after the action in London, and likewise in the movie. But in my non-critical opinion I liked it and plan to see it again next weekend after X-Men III.
