DD - Pissin' On Fireworks
Hi DD,
You know how it goes. The best 'four-pager' on the net; A terrific TGP complimenting it. Listed at all the best spots: Cleo's, The Hun, and a "Cracking Site!!!..." endorsement from the Big GG himself. Of course that's all history now [well 3 weeks ago]. The only place of note that isn't listing it is - DangerDave.com.au The reason? Well I'm not entirely sure, but there's a nasty bright yellow exclaimer stating that RevShare hosted domains aren't going to be listed. Guess what. http://www.preverts.com/xfree/warning2/012c.htm is on a RevShare host. 2 + 2 = 3.760914528? I think disappointed is the word for it, were I to be diplomatic. F'in' miffed is the way I'm really feeling. Clearly some bad apples are spoiling it for the rest of us who try to play by the rules. Kinda pisses on the old fireworks, don't it?; Unless you got big friends or big money, you get nowhere fast. Maybe it's time to either give up or join in with the dishonest. After all, we're tarred with the same brush |pissed
I don't list revshare hosted sites either, so you did slip past me on the review, but I'm going to have to pull the link tomorrow :(
|
Add me to the list too. I'll leave up the one that I accepted but I can't take anymore. :(

PreVert,
I am sorry but I/we don't make rules for no reason or out of spite.. New rules are usually added to combat some new craze adopted by "bad" webmasters. I for one have been flooded with poor quality revshare hosted crap... and also had 100 of sites disappear and redirect that were on revshare hosting. Those things combined make my job harder, which in turn impacts on the traffic I can generate and the sites that I can review and list. That is simply not workable.. and the exclusion of revshare hosted sites will fix the problem. Revshare hosted sites were only just scraping in as it is... by rights they are free-hosted and I, amongst others, accept nothing that is free hosted. Again there is good reason for this rule. Webmasters that aren't shelling out hard earned cash for their hosting simply dont give a shit.. they will let their sites go to crap, redirect etc, and just move onto the next free option. Hosting is cheap! Bandwidth is cheap! A decent site on PAID hosting will get everytime! Go and get a 20$ account and never look back. DD |
To me the issue is one of control - on a revshare host or a free hsot or whatever, you don't control the entire contents of the site, nor do you have control if the site stays up or not. If you make a typo, put up a wrong sponsor, whatever, you can end up in the shit.
It wouldn't be hard for a single revshare host to flip a bit and suddenly all your euor traffic is redirected - or allyour aol surfers. Just not a good thing. As DD said, spend the $20 and enjoy being in business :-) Alex |
Understand the problem, and agree that it's killing the honest players in the long term. Saturation of the market hasn't helped either, with everyone and their dog jumping on the wagon.
Sorry to hear you'll be pulling the link, GG. Guess I'll be pulling the site altogether. Anyone else I managed to "dupe" into listing? You can remove my link too, along with any of the following: http://www.preverts.com/xfree/warning1/ ...Anything http://www.preverts.com/xfree/warning2/ ...Anything I did this as a rather enjoyable hobby for a little extra weekend 'beer-money', not to rip people off to make a stash. Time to call it a day, clearly. |goodnight |
The hobbyist’s are pretty much the reason that free hosts are no longer allowed. For the reasons already mentioned above. There are lots of webmasters without “day jobs” trying to make it in this biz for the long haul. Those are the ones that will listen and learn. Along the way they will start making a living. Just like in life outside the net. Hobbyist’s as a rule just slap something up then move on to the next one. That isn’t the way to make friends and get ahead. Today hard work and persistence is what pays off. On a free host you lose.
The choice is clearly up to the individual. No one is forcing anyone to build a certain way or link a certain way. But if you want mainstream links you have to have the desire to follow rules. The people who deliberately ignore the rules are the flash-in-the-pan types that do a lot of dirty things and then disappear. |santa
