Senate Proposes Prison for Those Failing to Label Adult Sites

Quote:

According to a copy of the bill seen by reporters at CNET, commercial website operators who fail to place “clearly identifiable marks or notices” on either the sites code or pages to warn of adult material could face up to 15 years in prison.
Also

Quote:

The bill also would impose a 20-year sentence on individuals for using misleading domain names to direct children to harmful material on the Internet. Similar language would impose an equal penalty for those who embed words or images in the source code of sites with the intention of deceiving minors into viewing “harmful” content. Both are new crimes.
This is just STUPID! I try to label every page of my sites, but get real 15 years in prison? |banghead|

I think daddy being away for 15 years because he hit the wrong key on the keyboard is probably gonna do far more harm to a kid than looking at porn... just a guess. |huh

I know what you mean RedCherry. I came across one of my pages the other day which was missing my adult rating! I'm doomed!!! |banghead|

Aside from the 15 years in prison, I kind of agree with it. Instead maybe a $300 fine per infraction with escalating penalties. See, what pisses me off about all this regulation bullshit, is that all a parent has to do is download any one of the several free internet monitoring/filtering programs and they can damn near forget about worrying if Jimmy or Jane might accidently stumble on to a porn site.. or go there willingly for that matter. Everyone throw 'sexually explicit material' in their fucking meta tags or page text, then Mr and Mrs Smith can filter to their hearts content. I think age comes in to play somewhere along the line.. in 5-10 years or so I don't think we'll hear nearly as much whining about this shit because the parents will be computer literate enough that they'll know how to proactively shelter their children from our evil, evil porn sites.

They exist merely to continue their lawmaking and other useless tasks. Do we need MORE laws? have all the laws curtailed crime? useless fucks.we have over a million laws as it stands. gimme a break. |bullshit|

I have a novel idea|goodidea let's put people in prison for decades for letting people see the beauty of the human body and let rapists and murderers out in 10 years. Fucking imbecilles.

I advocate eradicating the entire edifice where it stands in favor of libertarian government.|thumb

Might as well put the lawmakers in jail for stealing taxpayers money by not doing the job they were elected to do. haha

I don't think this will fly myself. If it does I'm gonna be really busy for a few months adding meta tags. |bullshit|

What's adult again? Sorry but I have trouble with fuzzy concepts.

Is medical pics of naked dead people adult?

How about horror sites?

Action adventure with more then two killings, three killings, four or at what point does action adventure sites become adult?

How about sex education or STDs education or proper rectum hygiene information sites?

What was that simple agreed upon tag for adult pages again?

Oh and what age is someone an adult again? For so odd reason it seems to be different in different counties.

And remember no nipples on boobs in public unless they are on fat men boobs.

LMFAO. That sumo summer banner was on the top when I read that, talk about fat man's nipples.

And the misleading domain names or words, who the fuck could determine that? I actually agree that people that use domain names or words to lure in children should be punished, but I don't think there is any way you could have a group of people come up with a list of terms they feel would be doing that and agree on it. I just don't think you could ever write a law or guideline that would make everyone happy, or cover every instance, so what is the point?

And JustRobert, even if you HAD put labels on for the last 3.5 years, who is to say those are the ones they are going to agree on are the correct labels?

This kinda shit is just a waste of bloody time.

SirMoby 2006-06-17 12:51 AM

It's so nice to see the party of small government and coservative spending burning through money and making a bazillion new laws.

I remember looking at some tabloid magazine several years ago. In it, they had a story about a transexual. I don't remember what the story was about, but what struck me as funny was that they had 2 pictures of the person. The first picture as a man, topless... ok... fine. The second picture also topless, but with implants. They had black bars across the nipples.

It struck me as hysterical that the addition of a little saline or whatever, suddenly made this guys nipples obscene to the point that they had to be covered, when the exact same nipples were in the picture next to it. |crazy|

What is stupid is that children are looking at the pictures and not the "warning" text. They should require that the landing pages have no hardcore. If a child clicks thru to the main page, they are old enough to be making that choice...and old enough that the parents should be watching.

do the senate ever think that the internet is NOT only american?

yeah, alot of other countries are the same way. This puritanical bullshit has gotten out of control.

no.

They believe, as do some of the fools who elect them to office, that their brand of "morality" and puritanical hypocrisy should be spread to all the heathen who think there is beauty in the human form. |shocking|

I cant help but think someplace in the back of my mind this is just some hidden ploy to get a list of adult webmasters. Yeah, make a law where everyone who does it must use these labels that when setting them up goes into a database. That at some point in time, someone, someplace can just take it and give it to the hunting dogs. Ok heres your list, now go get em.
Things like this freak me out, along with easy pass, cell phones, gps units (yes we just bought one that I love but fear someone is watching me when its on). I don't know, maybe to much weed last night and my paranoia is kicking in.

Didn't you guys already do that by joining the FSC?

juggernaut 2006-06-17 01:56 PM

lol yeah. Heck with my military backround I know they have me on a list. They even have my DNA. So I'm prob worse off them most here. The whole big brother theory just scares the shit out of me. When I see movies where people in the future are watched by the government it freaks me out cause I know it's comming.

Lemmy 2006-06-17 02:06 PM

What I don't get is why someone would think that an adult webmaster would try to lure kids to a porn site. Do kids have credit cards?

|jester| you may want to try a different strain Juggernaut, perhaps a indica would be better for the psyche, sativa's are the variety more associated with adverse psychological effects such as paranoia.

I sort of argee with this
I think the jail time is a bit over done but...

ya know what i find funny

on the island one of the biggest beaches is called jones beach
its a public beach but they charge a toll to go over the bridge to it

a few miles down jones beach is a nude beach
maintained with tax payer dollars
and it has a small sign saying you are now entering a nude beach

tities and cocks are everywhere
how are they protecting kids from stumbling in to that

juggernaut 2006-06-17 04:27 PM

I have the same set up here Tommy, just our nude beach if very hidden and lots of old people lol. Its a scary place.

swedguy 2006-06-17 04:32 PM

When will they finally pass a bill that will send parents that fail to do their job to prison for 15 years?

What I find interesting is that it's illegal to be here illegally but it's not illegal to profit from illegal.

How can a typo have harsher sentancing then defrauding tax payers and destorying people's lives?

It is so sad to see such a great country fall apart under an administration that hates democracy.

That being said, I have mentioned before that I think everyone should label sites and still do but I think that punishment for not should be less harsh then the penalty for raping children.

Don't forget biometrics, and face recognition software. Just run it through some of their satellites, and WHAM!

And under the PA they are mandating GPSs in all new cellphones, and vehicles just so they know where to find you.

Equal rights for women, is how some girls here forced the courts to strike down those nasty sex discrimination laws so they could go topless in public.

Tommy 2006-06-17 09:53 PM

I have been adding labels to everything I build and everytime I touch something old

I was thinking

maybe instead of putting labels in the head i should add a server side includes tag

this way if the labels change or i ever want to add more labels I could change the one file instead of changing hundreds or thousands of pages
