Paying for bandwidth

I am wondering what you pay for Your bandwidth, and why You pay for your bandwidth... where I am we have fixed prices, dont pay for every byte sent and received.

What Hosts are you using to host your sites, are they the ones charging you for bandwidth or is it your isp?

I am asking because my current hosts statistics module absolutely sucks, I can't see a damned thing about what is going on at my site and that bugs me, all I can see is how many visits I have had, not how many unique visits, not where the traffic is coming from or where it is going.

So what host would you recommend, and what are the bandwidth costs/byte or how the calculate it

I think most people just grab a server or some sort. For example a 10 Mb/s dedicated box with many hosts is $299-$499. Then you don't pay for bandwidth, you have a fixed monthly fee. If you start getting too much traffic then you increase your "package" to 20Mb/s or grab another server.

I have servers are PhatServers and at Mojo Host.

im using colo cation, which as far as I can tell runs some of the biggest adult sites on the net. I only use the basic virtual hosting package at $20 a month, (US) for 20 gig and as yet I have not made anything with my pornographic ventures. For what is effectively a £12 a month hobby for me at the moment, it doesnt seem like such a bad deal.

http://colo-cation.com/ for me too, and I can't praise them enough.

I use the Static Virtual (Tux) package, which has been great for my freesites & hubs (it doesn't support CGI/PHP or SSI).
Currently I pay $40/month for 150GB, but I'm creeping closer & closer to that bandwidth limit with my freesites and I'll probably upgrade soon to the Basic Virtual 200GB package for $50/month.

I've only been "doing porn" for a few months but I can happily recommend an amazingly good service.
:)

I'm a former customer of Colo and I only left because I have a knack for spiting myself. ;) I definately give 'em my |thumb Their virtual servers are very solid and very fast because the owner optimizes the hell out them and makes sure that extra/uneeded processes aren't running that would bog them down. He's (cd34) also very well known for discovering security holes in scripts, so his customers sites are as safe from hackers as possible. You can hit-up cd34 or one of his minions at 20164730. They spend their time watching their servers, not the boards - so you won't see them dropping by this thread.

absolutely none, I can see how many visits I have had, but not where they come from, so if I look at my site, that counts too... I cant see where my visitors are coming from (google, LL's etc) i have no clue, where are my visitors going after? no idea, I cant see what they click. I am pretty much blind as to what is going on at my site|confused|

Xallow, I have an eye for quality and I have been with colo-cated for 3 weeks. They are EXTREMELY professional and answer my calls for suppot before the second ring as I am a technically non proficient imbecille.|shocking|

Seriously, they kick ass and are probably one of the best hosts in the world.|thumb

Xallow 2006-06-18 03:51 PM

I will check them out, sounds really nice though, and they have good statistics module so you can see what the hell is going on at your site?

karomesis 2006-06-18 05:20 PM

Yes. you'll notice I have no link to the site. I am telling you this because it's true.

It took me a week to figure out how to use the interface on the DB admin.

Xallow 2006-06-18 07:20 PM

sounds complicated, but I guess complicated means extensive, and that is good

I'm with Dreamhost. I pay $19.95 a month for 1.6 TB of bandwidth which increases every month. I burn about 20-40 gigs a day. I've been with them for over five years with no problem. See my sig if you're interested.

That´s true. He just helped me to get rid off my trojan though I´m not a client.

nottslad 2006-06-20 06:22 PM

For me I've used webair.com for several years who have proved very reliable.

I've also just signed up for a new account with cyberwurx.com - $4.25 a month for their starter package with 10 gigs a month.
