For those with BIG ICQ contact lists.

Who out there have big ICQ contact lists? I have around 600 at any given time.
I'm just wondering if we share the same issues and problems with ICQ due to having so many people on our contact list.

Quite often I have problems adding a new person. I get errors. Then I'll delete 10 or 12 people from my list and try adding again. Most of the time that works. Not always though.

Then... once I completely re-start my ICQ, I see the names of the people I have previously deleted come back again. I know this has to do with the ICQ servers hosting my contact list, but a deletion is a deletion right? I mean, what if I wanted to completely flush my entire ICQ list and start from scratch? Is there a way to do it?

It's tough to communicate with someone who isn't on your list because ICQ filters out URLs and emails (and who knows what else) so the conversation can get frustrating.

Comments?

(and no, I'm not switching to Trillian)

LMAO that was what I was going to suggest :)

Seriously though Chris, that was one of the reasons I switched to TP.
Mind you, it's not perfect (Lord knows I bitch on their board quite often) but it does make managing close to 2k contacts easier than what ICQ would do.

Maybe backing up your buddy list would help too - in case you 'really' don't want Trillian

Trixxx! When are we doing sushi again?

You know, a couple years ago I gave Trillian an honest go. I used it for 2 solid weeks. I just felt I didn't have the same control over it that I do with ICQ, so I reverted. Maybe it's time I tried again.

I think the limit is 100 contacts per group -- create another group for your new contacts. This appears to be an oscar limitation rather than a client limitation when your contact list is stored online. I don't believe trillian stores your contact list online, thus, doesn't hit that limit.

A sushi get-together with the Montreal folks sounds good.

Although Trillian is far from perfect - It's the one I prefer to use because everything is on there, I don't need 5 messengers open to function LMAO

I think that's a good idea. We should do it soon, maybe around Canada Day weekend.
