Pat, keep me updated would you? I'm still fruitlessly looking for a script like that and if he updates it and it works, perhaps it wasn't $$$ down the drain.

Like I really need another new project to launch!

Included me on that. The last version didn't work at all on my setup. I emailed David a month or two ago about the update because he originally said he would work on it when PHPLD3 was released... well it was scheduled for January (released in February, I believe)... I haven't had a reply... yet

Let me know how things go...if nothing else I've got a few feeds I'd dump on you. Right now I'm spending my weekend on a new directory with a different script than PHPLD. PHPLD just doesn't quite do it for me.

T Pat 2006-07-09 02:25 PM

Looking like it's still an $85 piece of shit|banghead|

T Pat 2006-07-09 02:37 PM

wow Oast I just reread this thread I compleatly missed you saying you also bought Newstopica (sorry), so far it isn't looking to good there's a missing database field that won't let me add RSS Feeds |banghead|

Ha! I bought in at the low introductory rate of $75, which probably means I won't get those free updates!|huh

Same here. Support hasn't been forthcoming, either.

MySexPosts is up and running. More feeds to be added as and when I get them, but ready for exchanges with those that are interested.

I like Weg O Web |couch|

T Pat 2006-07-10 03:19 PM

Hey Walrus and Oast
Heads up the script is still all fucked up, I've reinstalled it so many times I have all the steps memorized. I'll look at it again when I get back from vegas for now photos aren't loading and dates are all wacked out |banghead|

oast 2006-07-10 04:08 PM

Thanks Pat. I'm sure I won't lose any sleep over it.

Have a good time in Vegas. I will be there next year (assuming they do it again), as I'm playing in the 2007 WSOP :)

ronnie 2006-07-10 08:16 PM

Dont forget magpie, though it might take more coding than most people want. Seems I read it could be used as an aggregator, but sure not something ready out of the box. I use it now just to pull feeds from one give url.

So I am guessing no one has found a good script? There are quite a few sites running as aggregators, is there something wrong with those scripts?

I like Weg O web also, sure different..:)

ronnie

walrus 2006-07-10 08:24 PM

Magpie has got to be the most used piece of code around for RSS aggregation. In fact, I'd bet newstopica has it integrated into it somewhere. I know WP does. It's a great script to write something around....now if I had a little more time.....oh ya and knew PHP

Pretty close probably, but not to forget magpie uses snoopy, thats got to be at the top of the list.

T Pat 2006-07-10 09:08 PM

Newtopica uses Magpie for it's RSS aggregation and PHPLD for the content handleing.

Ronnie You and Greenie's clocks must be wound different than mine, you see it as Weg O Web I saw it as We Go Web, still don't know what I'm going to do with the name but I like it :D

Greenguy 2006-07-10 11:31 PM

Of course, Fee Dez does have a nice ring to it as well :D

and in that lies the basis of the problem....PHPLD is a barely functional script and really not ready for prime time if your running a medium sized directory

BTW just because I'm a weird fucking duck...I read it as Wego Web

Just to clarify, you are using phpLD News, not phpLD.
phpLD News is used on about 30-50 sites, while phpLD is used on close to 100,000 sites. Admittedly, phpLD News is not as well developed simply because there are fewer users, though we have several people that do like the script (just not on this forum).

However, to say the phpLD is barely functional would be quite the understatement, as it is the mostly widely used directory script, and used on almost 100,000 sites.

Are you going to go around and try to respond to every 6 month old post about your product?

Just to clarify, I am not using phpLD news and when I purchased whatever it was...it was called Newstopica and I threw that in the garbage long ago.

I am using a very old copy of phpLD that I never upgraded. I spent over a year talking to other adult webmasters who use phpLD about what I didn't like about the version I had and verifying whether those issues had been resolved or not. They weren't and I gave up even thinking about upgrading shortly after I purchased Newstopica and ran into the customer support issues I had with you. The final straw came from conversations I had with Oast, who had also purchased a copy of whatever it is you want to call it, and found out that you were telling him a much different story than you were me. At that point in time, I decided I would not give another penny to someone who lied to me like that.

Now do you want me to list the version I am using and all the bugs / issues I have with the script and we can see if some professional link list owners would like to comment on my assesment at that time as to whether the script was barely functional or not. BTW in case you don't know the term a link list is basicly a directory of free sites.

Or would your rather just shut the fuck up and go away. Your defense of your product is doing nothing more than pissing off more potential customers than changing anyones mind as to the usefulness of it or the honesty of the scripts owner.

dvduval 2008-02-23 10:37 AM

Yes, if there are some bugs with phpLD or phpLD News, and you want them addressed, you are welcome to post them on the phpLD forums, and we will do our best to help, so long as you are respectful of our community and support staff.

If you take a step back, and look at the words you are using even now, and then imagine being the person trying to support someone that is yelling at them, you might see why the people helping you may have been less sympathetic to your cause, or speedy at answering your requests. We may not have been as fast or as perfect in our support as you liked (or us either), but you will find that we don't easily give up on people. If you have given up on us, that is your decision, but we are still there for you in the phpLD forums, so long as you are respectful of our community and still desire help.

We are always happy to help people that appreciate what we do. We work very hard every day, and if you look at our forums, you will see that we answer a good 100 posts from customers each and every day. We make improvements to the script over time as a result of requests by customers. We may not be as fast as people would like sometimes, but we have many customers that have been with us for a long time, and are repeat buyers, because they found our script valuable to them.

The reason I responded to this old thread was I didn't get a chance to respond at the time.
