i am a bonehead
heres a lesson about not testing on production servers....
it was about midnite last nite and i was testing some new mod_rewrite rules on my production server. i did some test on my development box but the results came out differently on that and so i thought hey production server... should be no problems. i couldnt get the specific rule to work and it wasnt crashing my site so i thought, just go to bed and work on it tomorrow. I LEFT THE RULE IN PLACE ON THE PRODUCTION SERVER. This morning when I went to my site I notice that it is now redirecting everything to yahoo.com!!! so heres the moral of my lesson: 1) NEVER, NEVER test on the live boxes 2) but if you do wish to break Rule #1 and test on live, NEVER leave it in place and ALWAYS revert back to original 3) ALWAYS use some kind of versioning system (eg- CVS) the good thing is that i did it late last night and i caught it this morning. now if only yahoo will pay me CPM for those clicks i refer them... |banghead| |
Least Yahoo could send you a thank you card.... :)

4) If it's getting late and you find that you're making simple mistakes. Stop! Walk a way. Collect your thoughts and try to remember everything you touched then go put things back they way they were before you started futsing around
