Two Modems in less than a month GRRRRR!

Son of a bitch, I just got my main computer back online after 32 hours of agrevation the cable company wouldn't give me a new modem because their records showed they just gave me one, I had to wait for the tech to come out and verify that my modem was fried, his theory is a power surge from a lightning strike so I have this one on a surge protector (like that's going to help). it took me all day to unscramble my computer because I listened to their phone support and had all my settings screwed up. Now that I can get a little work done the television starts that damned beeping and there's another severe thunderstorm heading my way so I need to unplug rather than risk frying something else, damn |banghead|

I picked up a small UPS for under $40. Far more protection than a surge protector and it keeps you from having to reboot everytime the lights flicker.

Yup, a UPS is your friend |thumb

I've had this unit for almost 4 years now...actually just replaced the battery a few months ago. Think the UPS was a bit under $200 when I bought it.

We get quite a few power spikes in this area, the UPS keeps all my computer equipment online and safe :)

Oh, I sincerely hope not on the long lost brother thing!

If that were the case, well...let's just say some my thoughts about your sexy self would be very bad indeed :D

Yea Pat, a good UPS is actually pretty cheap peace of mind. This unit has enough battery power to keep both my systems, router, cable modem and bu ext hd powered for about 20 minutes in a full blackout. Which allows plenty of time for a controlled soft shutdown in case of a power loss. But, the bigger benefit to me is the line conditioning that keeps equipment from taking a hit when the power 'burps'...which happens quite a bit in this neck of the woods. Ahhh...Florida, land of sunshine and thunder/lightening storms...
and of course |hurricane

I lost a computer and a TV do to lightning when I lived in Florida Mr. Yum. I didn't know that Arizona's Monsoon season was anything like this.
