you train to shoot a paper target, get a better badge the better you do, get shipped to Iraq, watch friends get blown to pieces... I can see how there is quite a disconnect with taking someones life over there.

Id have to disagree that wars his father would have fought were different - hell the Vietnam war was definitely for nothing and everyone knew it (of course I see that the lastest polls out this week show Americans disapproval of the Iraq war is now at the same level it was at the worst during Vietnam)

The first act of any country declaring war on another is to de-humanise its enemy.

To no longer see another as a human, allows us to behave like animals towards them...

There's somthing truly fucked up about this guy. And, dare I say, it's probably not in the best interest of the armed forces to pre-screen out this sort of thing too thuroughly. Just enough to make it look like they're trying is enough to appease the people at home.

No matter what it's a terrible tragedy.

I've known a few people that wanted to go "kill commies". They didn't want skills or a pension or to protect the country. They wanted to kill mother fucking commies. That was about 25 years ago and now again we have a new generation of psychos that want to kill people they know nothering about.

That works both ways ;)
