Most popular feed readers?

By chance does any one know what are the most popular feed readers? Like Yahoo, google, ect? I am looking at doing some feeds and dont want to have tons of chicklets, looking for the most used. Or any one know of some stats on the subject?

Thanks

ronnie

This is an older post on the subject:

Techcrunch

But I haven't seen anything recent.

You could rotate a few in and out every so often and see what kind of traffic you get.

What's your hesitation from having a bunch? Seems to me syndication is about publication in as many places as possible. |huh

I like Wizz RSS: http://www.wizzcomputers.com/WizzRss.php

This is a little more recent article from techcrunch. This article is about as dated as the original techcrunch posted here http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/col...le.php/3517646 and actually pretty well follows what I've seen on my feeds but then again, my feeds and the survey all have feedburner incommon. and here is one more link, just in case I haven't added enough yet http://www.feed-readers.com/most-pop...ss-readers.htm

Thanks for the link, although i have to say, it seems confusing, but does give me some ideas...;) Seems there is no accurate way to determine the top readers or how popular each one is.

If it was a blog, sure, have a whole side bar to put up those cute little chicklets. Where I am doing the feeds I am limited and want to be limited for several reasons.

This brings up another question, if you just have a plain rss link or default rss link, are most surfers smart enough to know how to add it to their reader, or do that need the link geared to their reader to add the feed(s)?

Thanks every one for the replies, it is appreciated...:)

Most readers are actually pretty simple to add feeds to and yes most people who actually use them are smart enough to add them....with the exception of the MyYahoo, MyMSN, Google (whatever it's called) crowd. but the chicklets act as a good visual reminder more than an actual shortcut. I've been thinking seriously about pulling my little chicklet farm myself, with the exception of the SE buttons mentioned above, and just making a big note on my sidebar to remind people to add the feed.

Some good thoughts there, thanks..:) But in looking at those stats, besides Yahoo, the rest dont even show up, course as said there seems no good way to track it anyways.

Guess the more you think about it, if the surfer has a reader other than the SE's or SE page, seems they would be smarter about how to add new feeds, they would have to be really. Where as the SE group, they might be more easy, click and do type.

Here's a quick question, though a little off subject. Do SE's find rss feeds or links on their own, like harvesting links with bots?

I wondered about the same thing, actually. Makes sense to me. |huh

Yes. Mine has been harveted. I haven't gotten much traffic from it, but bots do look for it. I think it's the header tag pointing to the feed that does does the trick. ;)

Which is why use feedburner....at least when someone does find my feed its formatted.

It is interesting but on my server stats MyMSN shows up as much as MyYahoo but on my feedburner stats, MyMSN never shows. I'm assuming that for some reason feedburner is seeing the MyMSN reader as a generic reader of some sort. I know that's what I sort of assume.

Also, yahoo was the first of the SE's to add a reader for homepages and Google trailed way behind. Since those surveys are a little dated it could be that Google may have not really been in the game at the time.
