On a more serious note, when comparing our culture to others it appears that when society is sexually open that rape and nasty stuff like children being involved is much less common then in the less sexually open societies.

Basically, the more that it's taboo, the more that crimes increase. If these Christians thinks it's terrible then it makes sense that more of them would have trouble with it.

Of course 50% is pushing the BS too far because no one believes that number.

The poll was self selected using visitors to the Christianet website, and they defined "addicted" as "ongoing use of porn".

Does regular ongoing use of church services mean that half of America is addicted to church?

on the article..those numbers are not surprising at all. My father--the minister--churchmen were always the worst leches. I lost my virginity to the director of youth services and there was always some poor female soul in my father's study seeking comfort for her husband's infidelity.

I like that site. I'll remember to mention it in my next post/rant against organized religion. (I have a couple of 'god kills pets' graphics here if you can use them with your killing kittens article.)

As a recovering catholic I have witnessed many a friend who go to church every Sunday but yet cheat on their wives, over indulge in drugs and alcohol and claim that I will go to hell for giving up on the church. And they wonder why I do not partake in one of richest businesses in the world called church!!! Brainwashing HYPOCRITES!!

Thank you its been a hard battle that I continue to deal with one day at a time :D like my buddy growing up who became an alcoholic and chemical dependant at 17. He is still sober to this day.

The first instance that church is just business happened when I was 9, though I did not understand that until much later. Went to private school at that time and received this little booklet where you were to put a dime in a slot every day for a month and give back to the nuns. This was given out to all the students, roughly 1000. No big deal, but it said if you can give more God will love you more! I questioned my Mom because Sunday school said he loves everyone equally. I remember my Mom taking it and storming out to my Dad stating that was it. All I know was next year I went to public school and have been a heathen ever since.

Even with that those early years still play on the mind from time to time. Which drives me a little |crazy|

The catholic church up until a few years back was the single largest holder of real estate in the business world. What business is now along side of them? McDonalds :)

Ray Croc the founder, did not build a hamburger chain, he used the churchs method and built one of the largest real estate holdings. Every one of those franchises sits on land that the corporation owns paid for by the franchisee. All the busiest corners in every city, town, state and country. Just like the church.

I was a Cathaholic for awhile. Italian and Irish parents. First eight years taught by Nuns of the Above. Altar boy and lecter at church. Then off to Jesuit prep school followed by the Christian Brothers at College.

Naah, it didn't take. Not a bit of it.

But come Halloween, I'm sometimes tempted to put on the collar and go hear a few confessions. Well, actually it's making them do penance that's the tempting part. :D

BTW, I always liked the term "removing nail polish".

My parents dropped the church went they started asking for a guarenteed payment amout, rather than loose change. I think also some of the churches maybe ask for a % of income.

I guess the base line to an analyst like me is that it is more cannon fodder to shoot down community standards. If +50% of christians are checking out porn, and over 70% of hard drives have porn on them. I want to supoena every computer that belongs to anyone in the courtroom if I ever end up there for some porn charge.
