Banners on free sites

How good do banners on free sites work for you?

Even with text links right below or above them their cick rate is really low for me so I wonder why almost all free sites have banners on them.

They seem to work well if you don't put many on your freesite pages. From what I've seen, the best is to use no more than 1 banner per page and the other 2 links you're allowed to have on each page should be text links.

Btw, I think you posted in the wrong forum :).

Odd sized banners can help also.

The only banners that have worked for me are fucking awesome ones. |bananna|

Not to be confused with awesome fucking... |loony|

If it's an eye-sore, chances are the surfer isn't going to want to look at it.

A freesite without graphics looks boring, but text is what sells best for me. |thumb

Big thing about banners is you have to track them. Much eaiser to testing and get rid of those that dont pull. Often it can be a difference that does'nt make sense. Bigger banners usually work better for me. 480x80 for example stopped pulling years ago, for the most part.

I think banners get sub-conceously ignored by the brain for many reasons. It could be that they are a standard size that the brain associates with an advertisement or maybe its too busy with text and action and the brain blocks it out because it recognizes it as an advertisement. I think the best banners are the ones that sneak by the brains advertisement ignore auto-function. If the brain doesnt sub-conceously recognize it as a banner ad it doesnt ignore it.

Odd sized banners, banners without too much text or too much action, that kind of thing can make your banner slip by the brains auto-ignore. Then you just have to get the surfer to click it once they notice it, even though they know its an ad. I make alot of my own banners and I try to use the hottest babe I can find and the best pussy, tits, fucking sex, ass, thighs, legs etc pic I can find as the image, with just a bit of text saying the site name and 1 single sales text line with a call to action. I try to keep the banners as clean as possible to let the background image show through but not too much so it looks like a blind link.

Seems to work pretty well for getting clicks, getting sales is another story :(

I get alot of clicks to my sponsor, still working on the turning them into sales thing though :(

I have done sites with absolutely no banners anywhere on the site just to be a bit different. Clicks still came thru and a sale but as virgohippy stated the site looked a bit boring.

Best banners to me are the ones you make, like WarBot stated. Use the best shot that visually represents what you are selling and add text/action to it.

Hope it helps :)

Hand made banners are the most fucking awesomest ones. |bananna|

While I agree completely and have used hand made banners myself many times, it should also be mentioned to make sure the banners are clearly ads. I've seen a lot of hand made banners that looked like a thumb with some tiny text on it. Those will get declined right and left as blind links :(

Banners add some extra spice to your freesites, so use them!

I have very little luck with banners unless they are odd-sized. Text links are usually what garner most of the clicks on my galleries and freesites.

I guess my sales pitch is better than the sponsor's, lol.
