The official Florida is fucked hurricane thread

Ernesto is coming for a visit.

It has weakened a lot but is going to be over warm water soon and has shifted further east.

I'm pretty much all set on supplies but I do need to fill up my car's gas tank and maybe pickup a few things for my freezer. Going to see what the storm does in the next 24 hours before deciding if I'm going to put all my storm shutters up.

The track looks like a razor going up the east coast and removing everything right up to New York.

This could be the Hurricane that all the Pete Panic's of the world have predicted will hit NYC this year |couch|

Simon 2006-08-28 11:30 AM

Fortunately you'll be alright way up there in Up...err...Western NY.

Wow, fuck, damn, shit…
My car only has a quarter tank of gas so I drove by a few gas stations and all of them have long lines except for the ones that have already ran out of gas. I have 18 days worth of generator gas so if I really need gas I'll just use a day's worth of generator gas to fill up my car but I'm guessing that late tonight I'll be able to buy gas without waiting.

Went by the drug store to pickup up all my prescriptions and long lines were already forming at their main checkout but no line to the prescription checkout.

Was going to pickup just a few things at the grocery store but their parking lot has a line to wait for a parking space. I just went grocery shopping so I don't really have to get anything and only wanted to get some extra Amy's microwave dinners.

It's hot as fuck out today without a cloud in the sky. Perfect weather to fuel a nasty hurricane.

Oh, don't say it's coming to New York, the last hurricane we had here was barely a breeze and the power crapped out in parts of Long Island for weeks...LIPA (formly lilco) completely sucks at anything that hints at natural disaster.

Simon 2006-08-28 06:04 PM

Went to the store to get supplies a few hours ago. Since the tourists were on mandatory evacuation, the store was quiet, no lines, plenty of everything on the shelves. Gas stations open and no lines there either.

That latest storm track does look evil for the each coast. I still hope it goes way out to the east.

Little hint from CNN: Don't forget the oil for the generators also.

The lastest 5 day forcast has Lake Ontario dead center about Sunday.

Ugh- I get to drive through there on Sunday, and I hate driving in the rain period.

lorsha 2006-08-28 07:20 PM

Waaaaay to soon to know where in the NE US it may go. If it even does.

Cleo 2006-08-28 07:25 PM

I'm guessing it will stall over the warm ocean, turn into a cat 3, and then slam into our beach.

or not

digifan 2006-08-29 07:35 AM

I hope not... and won't do harms in NYC either. I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping it's worth something :D

Greenguy 2006-08-29 07:44 AM

I just looked at the projected path & I think I need to go buy some gas.

Dead since 98 but I'm much better now.

Looks like it is going to be nothing but a bad storm. I'm not even planning on putting up my shutters.

Was able to avoid the long gas lines but using some of my generator fuel in my car yesterday. Plus I was able to avoid the long lines at the grocery store since I was already well stocked up in water and food. |thumb

I do expect to loose my power but I still have sixteen days worth of generator fuel so it's more of an inconvenience then anything else.

Plus I'm well stocked up in other hurricane supplies. |potleaf|

We are getting some pretty good rain right now. According to my Weather Station, it's raining about .7 inches/hour and I already see roads starting to flood.

terry 2006-08-29 09:26 AM

Good Luck to all!

So far so good. We've had rain bands, one with some wind, but nothing else here yet. Everything tied down and ready as we can be.

And I'd rather be here than on Wake Island tomorrow.

Typhoon Ioke, the strongest Central Pacific hurricane in more than decade. Classified as a Category 5 "super typhoon," Ioke is expected to extensively damage the U.S. territory when it hits Wednesday with 155-mph winds, said Jeff Powell, lead forecaster for the National Weather Service in Honolulu. "This is going to roll up a storm surge that will probably submerge the island and destroy everything that's not made of concrete," Powell said.

Cleo 2006-08-29 07:29 PM

Wow the winds hit 17 mph and it rained a little.

Some friends came over and we had a hurricane party which turned out to be just a rainy day party.

Not that I'm complaining. This is the Florida I grew up in. The weather people would tell us that a hurricane was coming. We would all use it as an excuse to take the day off and get together for a party and wonder why the weather people told us to do all these silly things that we never did.

Actually we would all go out and buy tape and bleach as we bought all kinds of junk food and party goods. I'm still not really clear on why we bought all that tape and bleach except we were told to.

Then the last two year's of hurricanes happened.

Greenguy 2006-08-29 07:46 PM

I've been watching The Weather Channel all day - this storm is boring.

NEXT!

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/grap...tml?5day?large

HLN said a CAT 3 by Sunday *BUT* it is expected to take a hard right turn back out to sea...

so in other words, east coast is fucked....

Cleo 2006-09-05 02:52 PM

Nice to see someone else expected to get a good fucking as I'm all fucked out after the last two years of fucking.

Then again as far as I've seen so far this year their predictions about these storms is about as good as a coin toss so who knows it may hit Florida and go up the coast like a buzz saw.

Got my gas, water, food, and that most important thing. |potleaf|
