Experts in here please!

Search experts that is!

Hey there I run http://foxyreviews.com and like the fool I am I did
around, give or take 2 weeks update work on it.

But then due to my foolishness I overwrote all the files with my
old ones therefore deleteing all my hard work during those 2 weeks.

Since then my google rankings on certain keywords have just slumped! which is of course what one would expect.

But the past few days I have worked hard and made the pages very
similar to how they used to be, yet I still cant see myself at all on google

Am I missing a fundemental problem? Should I just wait? Do I just need
to work really hard hard hard.... lol

Anyway I will appreciate any feedback you people give me. Thanks alot
Matthew.

You are expecting results a little too quickly :) Some sites take up to 3 months to be re-botted and updated in Google - all depends on how often the bot comes around and how important you are to them :)

In the grand scheme of things, 2 weeks worth of work isn't much to lose. |loony|

Think of it this way, because you recently did the work you'll probably be able to do better but in half the time. |thumb

hahaha yeh thats true virgo, could have been alot worse, but the fact which really annoys me so much, as that I had all my files on a backup USB.

Its quite a funny story really. My mother has some pictures of some dogs which she wants printing, so I put the pictures on the USB and took them down to the shop to get them printed of.

I slotted the USB in the magic machine and fuck.... all my porn pictures came up, even though I put them in their own folder!! fuckkkkkk. So i quickly left the shop

And got home and popped all my porn work on the computer, which just happend to be in the same folder as my websites, and oh great i wasnt paying attention and when the overwrite warning came on i just clicked ok, oblvious to what was happening!

Anyway Lesson Learnt! The files are now on my ipod and soon to be again on the USB when those dog pictures finally get printed off!

Never Ever mix your Biz with home stuff.
I don't care if it's porn or not, it's Business.
Get a seperate comp for home stuff. They're cheap these days.

And I'm paranoid about losing data, so every Sunday I make backups of everything. Copy to 2 seperate hard drives on different machines, and burn a dvd copy.
You'll learn what works for you though.

yeh good point, not quite rich enough to be able to spend money like that on 2 computers, but I will buy more backup etc and more precautions.

Goo Gull has been really wierd of late. Heck I have three sites that have been flashing on and off the index like a belisha beacon. One day they get 2000 se hits from G and the next zero. They are certainly tinkering with something involving detection of sites that use automation and URL rewriting since its only those sites that are affected.

Drives home the point that updating pages intelligently and seeing the results can easily take a year or more.

I remember reading a good tip that said if you've got a solid SE posiiton for a page then just leave it and build a NEW page optimized for the same terms your listed for but just higher by comparing and examining the competitors pages that have that NEXT 15 spots higher!

This way you're not guessing and hoping to get lucky with better SE results but actually focus on making something appear and keeping what you got!

Sounds good to me. Also if I am starting off anew I usually look at the twelfth page down and try to be just slighjtly keener than that with kword density and positioning on the page. The top 10 are often there due to all offpage seo factors nowdays. Its not oncommon for the top result on a search to not even have those words on the page but maybe just in an alt tag. However there are thousands of backlinks all with that search term in the link text.

Right.. I agree which is the wisdom of going deeper and picking pages you can conqueor. Lots of surfers go deeper after they've picked the top level fruit.

So your saying instead of trying to fuck around with seo. Just pop some good stuff on your website and keep track on the content?

Its just one school of thought amongst many. But, if you think about it after you've done proper SEO basics there's not much else left to do and if you have it in search why risk loosing it. So "improve" and "target" the next page. I think it has some validity.

scottybuzz 2006-09-26 09:11 PM

yep good point.
