So Now That Congress Made it Illegal to Gamble

What do you think of the bill they slipped through attached to the port security bill on Saturday? It basically prohibits any CC company from accepting bets online from the US - two of the major companies that drew most of their revenue from the US stopped operations overnight - and their stock is plummeting on wall st. - can you say partypoker :)

so is porn next ??????

Linkster 2006-10-02 11:55 AM

Not that far fetched - all they would have to do is slip it into some legislation on a weekend vote and it would fly through

spacemanspiff 2006-10-02 12:19 PM

Isn't online gambling already illegal? Seems like they're just cutting off the head in hopes that the snake will die.

Porn, on the other hand isn't illegal (yet). They could pass the law but it should get shot down on the first challenge.

See this is shit I need to know. Most of my "aquaintances" think I make a living promoting online gaming sites like Party Poker. To keep up the image I'll have to hold the spending down for a few months. :D

So who closed down?

Greenguy 2006-10-02 02:09 PM

ePassporte stil ok? I'd hate to not be able to transfer the $6.38 I have in my PP account :D

Hey Ramster, just tell all your aquaintances you saw this coming and repositioned your sites to target non-US traffic. :D

So far I think Party Poker and Pacific Poker have shut down US operations. Paradise is taking a "wait and see for now" attitude.

This will prove to be an interesting.

Another way to impose their fascist thumb of authoritarian government over the heads of Americans, the Republican right have scored yet another victory against liberty.

Liberty and Freedom?

You seriously all just moved another step towards the fascist theocracy that America is becoming. :(

SirMoby 2006-10-02 08:46 PM

It's not just that they did it's that it kept getting shot down all month and then Frist stayed until midnight to slip it through without any discussion.

Stevens is trying to do the same thing with Net Neutrality. I'm just amazed at how we keep voting for people that hate our way of life.

How much money do you think bookings and organised crime is going to make off of this in the next few years? Enough to buy a Senator?

We have the best senators and congressmen money can buy!
Truth, justice and the American way, went the way of George Reeves (dirt nap).

I don't mean to sound like a dick but isn't the US a free country? Then why can't an American play poker online if he/she wants to? He earned the money, it's his fucking money.

Maybe he enjoys spending $500 a month losing to an online casino instead of going to a bar and getting drunk. It's $500 he is spending for entertainment. Or instead of ordering call girls he's online until 3 am. hehe

Seriously...I know many people lose money daily. But many people are alcoholics. Many people are drug addicts. Many people are casinos addicts. It is ridiculas that the government is saying you cannot spend your time online playing poker.

:(

Constitution of the United States?

Bill of Rights?

Democracy and Freedom?

What the hell is going on over there?
