Peoples experience of dreamhost

Hi Guys

I was looking around for a new hosting package and it seems that colocation are the best but out of my price bracket at the moment.

I came across dreamhost but they seem to cheap for what there offering or im just used to paying alot for nothing

Whats your experience of them?

The things that are important to me are uptime & customer service.

Thanks

Then I would start looking elsewhere. They're notoriously unreliable in both aspects.

Well, they are not too bad but they had quite some trouble lately...I dont know what you want to use it for but if you care a lot about uptime/speeds I'd stay with colocation, they seem to be the best.

If you are looking to use a lot of bandwith for movie downloads or whatever its a nice place, you get a lot of bandwith for a very low price. (mostly with a discount coupon, you can get almost 50% off I believe, pm me if you need one)

I've been with them for a long time, both virtual and dedicated, and haven't had any serious issues.

For a paysite i personally wouldnt recommend them, too much downtime in the small time Ive been customer of them.

I joined Dreamhost a couple of years ago when my domain list started growing, because of the space and bandwidth offered for the price. I currently have a few mainstream sites with them and one adult one. I find that 1 in 5 or 6 times I want to do some admin or updating, one of the sites is inaccessible... I put it down to me being in the UK as there are no reported problems.

I am still a reseller for them, so if you want to try them, PM me and I will see what deal I can arrange for you... you do get a 96 day money back gaurantee, so could be worth a try before putting a paysite there.

I'm hosted with them, too, because of the bandwith I get.

After four months, I can say they are offering pretty much for what you pay for (one month I almost burned all the 1.6 TB I have on my hosting plan and they didn't showed up at my door with an axe). About uptime, Alertra says I had around 1h 30m of downtime in 4 mounths, all of it notified in advance. The speed of the hosting is quite good, my site wasn't painfully slow even when thehun listed me and got 100.000 unique hits in 24 hrs.

But I wouldn't reccomend them to host a paysite. As much others here, I wouldn't reccomend them to host anything critical. I'm thinking myself to move one domain to a more reliable host, and I will once I'll afford to.
