Fix your sidebars!
I don't know if I am the only one but I see so many blogs where the sidebar links are not in alphabetical order and it kinda bugs me. Seems they look so messed up and hard to read. I would think the surfer thinks the same or maybe they dont care? Guess it looks so much more ogranized to me, when they are in order, and easier to read. Or maybe one of my dumb little things..:)
Am I the only one? ronnie |
I prefer mine to come up in random order, gives each link a chance to be first.
|
I'd like a plugin that randomnized them or put them in order of hits but then i guess that would be a toplist
|
ronnie, sorry dude, but I got to disagree with you too....for the most part. Personal links such as links to my other sites, are almost always alphabetical but my link exchanges are ordered by hits in.
|
I do the same as Toby, random so each link has a chance to be first, both for link trades and LLs/blog directories I submit too.

Location, location, location. Getting clicks on a website is no different than retail in the bricks-and-mortar world. Unless you are happy for the top few links to get the most clicks, you don't have a choice except to shuffle them with each display.
|
Oh I realize when a toplist is in use, of course it's ranked by hits. Just see so many I know are not toplists, like directory linkbacks, ect. Maybe many I am seeing are random, did'nt think about that, my bad.

here either i put nothing in alphabetical order i just put the links up

If you are using WP, check out this plugin to sort your links (and link categories)
To keep with the thread topic, I have some links in alphabetical order, some in length order (very appealing on the eye) and some in random order, depending on the link category. |
I'm very anal so my links are in alphabetical order :)

Shuffling them has another advantage: When you blog always displays the sidebar on a single posts, random link order makes it less likely that google moves the post to the supplemental index because it is too identical to other posts...especially when you don't write very long posts.

I guess the best way is to put the links of the blog directories that sort the listed blogs on incoming hits at the top of all the links. This way your blog will be place at or near the top at the blog directory and your blog will receive more traffic from the blog directory. The same of course apply to link trades, put the link trades that bring in the most hits at the top to get even more hits from the link trade. Well you get the idea ;)
