What is aboutus.org?

I'm seeing my stuff and other's stuff listed at www.aboutus.org.

I guess this is a good thing although they are listing my home phone number and address. This is already on my whois so it's not that big of a deal.

Anyone have additional info about aboutus.org?

its a wiki based site looking for traffic from typeins to domains, etc.

RawAlex ran into that one a while back when working with him on one of his wiki's. Technically, its a pretty nice piece of coding the way they have integrated itm, but, I think it is purely to siphon off typein traffic and insert themselves into tons of search engine results and profit from that.

I see it as pretty harmless, and mostly done for the reasons CD stated...

It is owned/run(or at least in part) by the new owners of whois.sc/domaintools.com

I actually noticed it while doing domain name lookups at whois.sc on other's domains and it seemed like something I might want to be listed in.

I took a look to see what it took to be listed and noticed that my domains were already there.

Seems like I'm seeing a lot of wiki stuff these days.

actually, your domain MIGHT not have been already there, but, when you do a query, it inserts it almost in realtime.

like I said earlier, very slick piece of engineering. :)

Now that is pretty kewl.
I didn't really understand what the wiki stuff was until you explained it to me sometime ago.

Seems anyone can edit any page. I went in and edited the Apple.com one without having to login or anything.

"Please note that all contributions to AboutUs may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then don't submit it here."

Wikipedia has replaced google for me as a first stop for information.

Now if I can just find a way to harness that power for profit. |jester|

They (wikipedia) are probably thinking the same thing. They did get disconnected a while back for non-payment from one of their bandwidth providers.

We get a significant amount of highly targeted traffic from them

Like chris said that site is very cool.... i passed some emails with the guy who runs it a few months ago regarding a few domains i didnt want listed. He removed them ASAP and put a rule in to block out my name.

I have yet to see anything in there since.
