Pizza…

Well since I've pretty much let all the food in my house run out since I'm going to the middle of a desert for a week and still feel like crap due to this cold I've ordered a medium pizza to dine on.

Now living in the south I can get really good grits, home fries and some poor dead animal served up and since I live in the tourist part of town there actually very good dinning for all tastes within a few miles of me. There is even an extremely good vegetarian restaurant up the street from me called Sublime that I often take my carnivorous friends to so that they can see that I actually do eat real food.

Anyway the one thing that you can't get down here is a slice of real New York pizza. Sure you can get fux New York pizza, but it just isn't the same as what you can get in the city. There is a place called NYPD pizza next to the RamRod that is just a few miles from that is actually very good and watching all the butch queens in their leather outfits from next door makes for nice entertainment, but they don't deliver and I feel too much like crap to deal with eating out.

So that means ordering from Times Square pizza. It's run by real New York boys and is pretty decent pizza, but nothing to go screaming naked around the block about. Anyway every time I call them and tell them I want their medium pizza they have to explain to me that they don't have a medium pizza and only have large, extra large, and super size at which time I tell them the middle size one. I've been ordering from them for many years now and they know my voice so you would think by now when I call them up and order a medium pizza with black olives and mushrooms they would just send over their fucking mid sized pizza and not go through the whole long explanation of their pizza sizes.

Hmmm, is that a knock at the door that I hear…

We have here a lot of korean, vietnamese and turkish guys who run pizzerias. Their pizzas used to be real cheap - and fairly good - until we find out they smuggled their friends and relatives here and put them in work without salary or in very small salary.

Anyway, some young dudes made a humor song named 'Pizza Enrico' where "foreign" man sings in bad finnish. He's asking from finnish customer:

What, what, what are you saying?
Is there something wrong with your pizza?
You don't have to come here to eat,
it tastes the same everywhere...

and so on. They put that song in net. Some record company owners heard it, found the guys, made a single, and it went to #1 here. Now there is a whole album by 'Pizza Enrico' and his cousin 'Oregano'. Not so funny anymore...

Bad tongues tell that that song is some Ricky Martin's song. I don't remember the name, and I haven't heard that Ricky song I can't tell...

We finns are crazy...|bananna|

BTW, we ordered pizzas last night from some Pizza Enrico...salami...it was good, but had more mushrooms than salami, so I believe they will soon find out their selling is starting to drop...we finns may be crazy, but we are not as stipid as we look...

I'm pretty plain on Pizza, usually just pepperoni and cheese, but every now and then I max it out.

Best pizza I ever had was in Italy, some side st at a mom/pops type place so small it had 4 tables in it, had to point what I wanted on it and we ended up going back 4 more times to eat it again, real stove oven.....

Damn, now I'm hungry

I like salami pizza, but my real favourite is my own choose that don't have name: ham, salami, shrimps and gorgonzola. Yum! |bananna|

docholly 2004-01-04 10:58 PM

oh man what i'd give for a pie from the Original Ray's at 11th and 6th ave. 4 cheese, and folded slices so the grease runs down your hand... |jester|

One of our few family traditions is that Friday night is family night with music, dancing and pizza. We've been lucky in finding a place when we lived in Atlanta where the pizzaria owner was from NJ and had shipped in weekly all his supplies. Was almost like home.

Here in seattle we also found a local spot with a guy from Brooklyn and while he doesn't ship in his ingredients, when you call in the order it's almost like phoning home..

Whadda want?? Look Lady i got 4 people waiting here, ya gonna take all night to order?? you up on the hill?? yeah i know, meat feast, meat balls on the side and a 4 cheese calzone. No Tiramisu tonight but i got a great cheesecake.

Gawd help me if we ever want to change that order. |jester|

Have any of you experienced a good curry or balti?

finnbear 2004-01-07 07:31 AM

At Thailand I ate currys that lifted my hair up. I thought I know what is hot and spicy, but there I learned I knew nothing. Thais don't save their curry when they cook.

I can't help you with New York Pizza but if you like Chicago Pizza, Lou Malnati's can't be beat! They deliver anywhere but since they are actually in Chicago, same day service is out of the question :-)

Hi Judy,

I'm so sorry, I didn't even know you sent a PM until I saw this post! A lot of the other boards I use have the PM function disabled and I apparently don't have notification turned on so I didn't even know you sent me a PM. If your content offer is still on the table and the information in your PM is still valid I'm still interested in purchasing the full package!

Thanks BigJohn,

you have another PM :)

Judy

Cleo 2004-01-12 09:43 PM

Haven't forgotten you, sorry for the delay btw.
