LL Owners what do you think about...

Would it be okay to add an include from a tradescript on the index page of freesites in order to track the hits.

I've been looking for something that's EASY instead of webalizer or awstats and started thinking about having a tradescript installed.

It is however a script being added to the site but it won't affect anything other than tracking hits. Being able to track hits better will make it easier to optimize the daily submit list and hopefully save me some time at the end.

What's your thoughts about this?

Are you talking about an SSI?

Beenie 2006-11-30 04:03 PM

It would either be SSI or PHP
Code:

or
Code:

The code will have to be modified to the excact path ofcourse.

The script I was thinking of is AT3 (Arrow Trader Lite III) from www.arrowscripts.com - mostly used on traffic sites.
It will only be to track incomming hits and I will be able to add all the sites I submit to and see who sends traffic and from which categories for example. And ofcourse for SE hits.

Doesn't anybody have any thoughts or comments about this?
Would it be okay or reason for rejection?

Does AT set a cookie or test for cookie acceptance in a manner which would make a reviewer's cookie alert wake up and do the mambo?

I think a lot of link list owners are very suspicious about any kind of script call on a page. I could cause you problems.

I have Wusage running on one of my boxes and it gives individual page hits complete with referrer information.

When you enter the site it put in a code similar to this at the top
Code:

I am using the script on www.acalinks.com where you can check out a live example (just view source).

I do have webalizer but oh my god that seems so outdated and I can only see the top30 referers by URL (not domain)

Cookies are a bad idea. Text that says "script" in the source is also a bad idea.

The most efficient way to do this is to get a stats program on the machine that affects everything globally. If you can't do that, consider executing a php file with an image call, like this:

Code:

If you do it this way the script will get executed, but you're less likely to have anything on the page that might be considered an active threat. I haven't done it myself (I have stats on my box) but I've heard this is an acceptable practice by many.
