Acceptable percentage of 404s
I just had a freesite rejected for "connection issues" so I guess it must have 404ed when reviewed. I have been submitting galleries so my traffic has been heavier than normal. What is a normal amount of 404s? Yesterday when the gallery was reviewed (and also my heaviest traffic day ever) I was right around 3% (which seems pretty high to me). Do I need to get on my host? |huh

"Connection issues" usually means that your server is responding slowly or not at all. That is not a 404. A 404 is produced when contact to the server is made, but the file is missing.

OK...I know my stuff is there so the 404s could be coming from surfers trying to dig down into my domain for more stuff?
Maybe I'm to the point I need to consider upgrading my hosting or finding a new one... |
If youre having connectivity issues that would be more in the range of 500 errors - and yes - if you are getting those you need different hosting
The 404s are normal although you could probably look at your stats and see what pages they were trying to GET - there are scripts that run in the wild looking for all types of pages on sites - if youre only getting 3% thats pretty good :) |
Thanks for the input... I'm looking into hosting alternatives but I'm not ready to jump yet since this is my first issue. I guess it would be a non-issue if it weren't for all the crappy gallery traffic I'm getting.

As Linkster said if your site/gallery was 404 most likely you would get ignored or banned off the bat (especialy if it was gallery) rather then rejected for conection issues. |
Who do you host with?

webair...service has been solid. stats suck. It is a basic cheapo account though...
PS I don't know why GG is putting this weird quote under my name whe it only takes me 3.2 minutes... |
