hopefully that last xmas tree i put up

its down to about a foot and a half plastic tree with one of those revolving lights in it, but not even decent colors, just a standard green red, white, oddly the two colours that look good, purple and blue, are somehow sped up, and you see them the least. anyways, with that and the mall fatigue, i'm realizing why do i bother with it? i dont believe in god and i dont like what organized religion has done with its influence, so theres no baby jesus in it for me or anything else. i know where my presents come from, so theres no need for santa. i'm not against the god will towards men part, thats nice, but shouldnt that shit be by default and year round? i'm making a cd for a gift and thought i'll give it on the new year, and celebrate a new year, take santa and jesus out of the equation. already a plan to spend next one somewhere sunny and on vacation. now im single, so it works for me, if i had kids, it would be a different story, theyd definately get a xmas tree. anyone else?

I LOVE christmas & christmas trees, although Mrs Gary has become a bit obsessed with making our tree more perfect every year. I have children and I love the magic that goes with it. With all the shite in society I think you have to let kids have a little bit of magic now and then.

I'm with you on the god/jesus crap though.
I seem to be in a solitary position at my kids' school, objecting alone to some of the stunts a local christian "cult" has been pulling to grab 'em young for future cult-building. Special clubs, special ceremonies, special courses for youths etc etc. All aimed at planting that familiar blind-belief into those impressionable enough to warrant the extra attention.
Makes me very very angry.
Believe whatever you want, but why the hell is there this need to spread the friggin' word? I wish that the religious-types who knock on my door once a month weren't sweet old folks, or smiling young couples dragging their children wth them, just so that I could vent my anger now and then instead of politely but firmly rejecting their stale sales pitch.
I long to lash out!

We got kittens and they are tearing apart the tree. I haven't even finished decorating it yet, so it looks pretty sad right now. If it wasn't for my 4 year old I wouldn't have bothered to put the tree up.

I am looking forward to Christmas morning. I love watching my son's face when he opens his presents.

I like the way giving gifts once a year frees me from the responsability of being generous the rest of the year. |crazy|

A couple door-to-door bible peddlers came by my place once. I invited them to a neo-pagan Sabath - a weekly worship of Goddess. I offered the two well dressed young men to be the first sexual sacrificial offerings, since they were so pretty, and enthusiastically asked them to hold one moment so I could go get a book I had about dancing in the fires of passion with Goddess. They didn't even stick around long enough to see if I was serious. |loony|

Hahaha, too funny :) I told my wife the other day that Santa does porn, after seeing his avatar :)

He really is my Santa though, he's one of my favorite people in the biz considering all of my free sites that he approves :)

We used a 18 inch Xmas tree for like 10 years when we lived on the boat, took the old lady longer to remember where it was stashed than to set it up. Now that were off the boat she went and got a 6 footer and all the crap to go with it, total waste as far as I'm concerned unless there are little kids running around Xmas is just a conspiracy to get money from me and to fuck up my routine. |huh

I did my yearly Santa Clause call on the 23ld to the grandkids, put me in the Xmas mood for less than an hour |santa|

ponygirl 2006-12-27 06:08 PM

we always get a real tree, it's a pain but it smells nice, and you just throw it over the neighbour's fence when you're done :D (just kidding hehe)

If I was alone, I'd probably not do anything. Christmas to me is my family, and a nice time of feeling hope for the new year.

And I'm with you, Stu - my kids will believe in Santa till they move out or else!! |santa|

Back when I lived in a hi rise apartment building the one in the apartment across from me caught on fire. It made the holidays much more exciting especially when one of the guys that lived there discovered that the tree was on fire while he was in the shower and came banging on everyone's doors wet and naked screaming "my tree is on fire."

We all got together and put it out before the fire department got there using the fire hose that was on each floor but the apartment was a complete loss and till this day I kind of look at trees like a big fire waiting to happen.

I love my tree.......I love things that sparkle so pretty. Sometimes I will just sit in the living room and watch the lights reflect on some of my ornaments from when I was a kid.

But then I had a very happy and sometimes corny childhood. Even when we were dirt poor we would drive around at night and see all the sparkling lights that people had put up.

TightTeela 2006-12-27 08:11 PM

nothing wrong with the trees themselves, im a junkie for pretty lights, i'll be jealous as hell when you are all in vegas :) i'm just against the standardized format of xmas, doing what your supposed to do etc, like i said, im too old for santa and i dont believe in jesus, so why not give gifts on the new year, or on the soltice, why xmas? so hopefully i'll be somewhere warm and sunny next xmas, somewhere where theres no xmas, give myself some time off before im obligated to celebrate it. this year seemed not the worst xmas, but one where i honestly cared least, it actually felt like it was a waste of time, i couldnt get into buying gifts, even for myself, the idea that i need something between dec 1-24th that i didnt already have or have in mind to buy myself, seems odd. getting together with my family was nice, but i can do that any time, and it seems odd to be obligated to be in holiday cheer, some of the best conversations i've had started because someone was down or pissed off or some issue had come up, glueing a smile on because theres a plastic santa within 10 feet, doesnt make sense.

In my country, we give each other presents for New Year and not for Christmas.

We have a Santa and a tree and all, but our Christmas is on Jan 7th.

...

Cleo and Stu ... remember to bring a camera with you! :)

You need to pull a Jeff Foxworthy: draw a chalk outline of a human body and sprinkle religious literature on it. Problem solved.

dareutwo 2006-12-28 10:36 PM

No tree or anything else here.
Same for any other holiday, birthdays etc... mine included.
My folks buy the kids stuff though, and just mail it.

To me, a gift should be a surprise. Giving the kids bikes with bows on them on a Monday in April with no knowledge, that's a gift.

I do take advantage of the Xmas food specials though. I can only get Lutefisk here around the holidays. That smelly Cod fish dried in Lye stuff.
