Porn Supression in Google mentioned in a BoingBoing article

They're not talking very coherently about it, but it's interesting to see a bunch of the better known sex information writers are complaining that they've been dumped from the serps.

Don't read this looking for intellifgent commentary - it's just interesting to see the effect make the news in a big(ish) blog like boingboing

"Google "disappears" sex blogs? Something's broken.
A number of bloggers who cover topics related to human sexuality say they've suddenly disappeared (or at least been deeply demoted) in Google search results. Popular "indie" blogs that deal with nonfiction sex ed or indie alt-erotica fare (Tiny Nibbles, Comstock Films, ErosBlog, and others) have suddenly vanished to much lower ranking in relevant search results -- even when you have Google's adult filter turned off. And in practical effect, being buried is just as bad as being filtered out entirely.

The apparent drop appears to coincide with changes Google recently made to their keyword ad program, AdSense.

But here's what's so crazy: now, when you search for the missing indie sexblogs, the top results are icky porn spam blogs (aka "porn splogs")."

Hey, I’m an engineer at Google. I just wanted to say that different people at Google saw this and were asking about it, so we’ll check out these reports from the sites such as tiny nibbles and others.

I have a mainstream website that has ranked very well with Google for a couple of years. Changes and additions to it are picked up by Google very quickly. I have an adult site just slightly newer than my mainstream site that I have SEO'd the same way as the mainstream one. Yet, my adult site doesn't show up nearly as well as the mainstream site. In fact, it's almost invisible on Google. And, additions or changes to the site don't get picked up as quickly. Is this just my paranoid imagination?... has anyone else noticed anything like this?

Thats one of the big things I dont get, how legit adult sites are no where to be found but yet adult spam makes it in, how can they not tell the type of the site. Sad when spam keeps getting in, when you try to do it right or whitehat, good luck. If any one wonders why people spam, this is a good validation.

I do have to say this month my SE traffic has been sliding back up and more so within the last week. Not quite where it was before the big drop a few months back, but I'm not complaining, it's getting close. Have they maybe rolled back that big change?

That will probably always be the case, the SE's sure dont seem to embrace porn. Then again, maybe more competion in adult?
