Main Page SE Traffic???
I have been doing a little research on the search engines and there relationships with LLs as of late. I am trying to figure out the best way to release my new LL with the proper linking structure so that its not held up by filters any longer than it has to be.
During this process I noticed one major page where traffic was neglected and started to ask myself why so I figured I would come and ask you guys to see if anyone had any type of explanation why the main page of a Link List is never shown in google or many other se's ? I have noticed myself that most LLs who have a warning page usually have there next page as there main page with new links and there internal sitemaps yet you never see them in serps even though you would think it would be one of the most important pages that google would like to see do to the new content constantly updating. Any fellow LL owners or segurus have any input on the subject? |
I cannot reply to you in a friendly tone unless I first reproach you for your horrific spelling and grammar. At 2 AM, I should not have to decipher that many incorrect word usages.
There, that's done. |smooch| The answer you are seeking, grasshopper, is an obvious one. It is the intentional reciprocal linking strategy of most link lists that is the root cause of your findings. Most hard link trades and garden variety reciprocal links point to the domain's root and/or category pages. You'll see hard link trades on the main page, but nothing compared to the amount of inbound links to the index and category pages. |
There are at least 2 LL's I have submitted to in the past month that have recips pointing back to their main/newest page instead of their root. It's a different SEO strategy, and not a bad one by any means and is in practice out there.

yeah I know its horrific but I usually type in one steady motion and it usually doesn’t come out like I planned it but at 2 in the morning I cant bring myself to feel bad about it at the moment :)
Now what I get from what you said is that its our fault and if we traded on our main page more we might see better results for them. If thats the case then I understand and agree. Thanks for the kind words and the quick reply. |headbang| |

hmm. Maybe it being two am here has caused me to not notice. All i noticed missing was a few commas, couple periods and the dreaded "there=their" situation.
Actually this is a good point. I, personally, will use my main page on my upcoming LL for my recip when making my freesites and/or galleries, etc. I will also use it for hardlink trades. My submission recip for submitters, though, will be the index page. I am obviously no SE expert though. In fact i'm up changing over 200 pages that i mistakingly put a style code in above my robot meta tags which were then not being read by engines. Oh well. |

200 pages |banghead| The simplest mistakes are usually the hardest to fix. |

Anyway.... My old recips for WhoringWives used to do that. One link to the main page and one the specific category. It was forever until I realized that I really needed some links pointing to the domain root. It doesn't hurt to try a little of everything and allow people to link to you in creative and fucked-up ways. Chaos is your friend (except when you want to get some sleep). |
i don't feel bad for you. It's 4:49 here and my pretty lil head stil has yet to touch the pillow :D
|
by the way, just got my first look at the new site. looks like it should do really well. Congrats.

I have my recips point to my main and cat pages, and by far I've noticed more SE traffic going to my cat pages then anywhere else.
I also get a tiny bit more SE traffic to my root then to my main page. I think this is because links back from recips don't do nearly as much as my own offsite SEO. I guess it's some sort of link-spam scrubbing thing. |huh |

As far as linking strategies I guess if it aint broke don't fix it :) If not linking to the main page how do you feel about traffic trades on the main page like tommys-bookmarks.com has on his site ? Do you think that would bring more traffic to your site or take it away? |
