inflation and the price of porn
has anyone ever wondered about inflation
I can remember 6-7 years ago programs were paying 30 to 35 a trial and today its the same and also 6 to 7 years ago the normal trial price was around 2.95 today its just about the same everything else has gone up at least 40% what was the cost of a gallon of gas 7 years ago what was the cost of a gallon of milk 7 years ago why havent porn prices gone up at all |
There is way too much free porn. If someone was giving away free gas or milk those prices would be lower too...

Some things stay constant in life and those things are often "luxuries". Computers, TVs, furniture, cars and such stay close in price and if they go up there is always a newer model (which is what happens with carrs) as an option that is still in the cheap price range.
I think there is a threshold people are willing to pay for certain things. Also I bet a high % of people that buy porn memberships are not the same people that buy new furniture, cars or other big ticket items very often (since that income range is the highest % of people alive anyway). Certain things in life need to stay the same to be viable and survive. Now if EVERY site upped the membership to $50 then great. :) |
for the new year im going to try bumping up for 19.95 to 24.95, hopefully that doesnt kill me
|
I think charging more is a good idea... People have a natural tendency to think something is better if the price is higher...an example would be bottled water

I agree with SheepGuy -
Corn prices are the same or lower than 7 years ago. But will probably rise as ethenol production increases. Wheat prices are lower - but boxed cereal is more, go figure. If your fixed costs have gone down, ie, bandwidth, content, your price should stay the same. I'm guessing Hyundia could produce a car for well under 10K, but that's what the market will bear, so that's the line in the sand. It seems that porn has a 30.00 or so line in the sand. Teela, I doubt you'll see any difference. In fact, long term rebills may increase. But like Ramster said - if everyone upped to 50 :) |

Labor prices to maintain web sites have gone down. Internet access prices have gone down. Digital photography (the cost of shooting content) has gone down. Bandwidth prices have gone down. The cost of marketing, studio lighting and models are the only costs that have increased and I don't think they've gone up 40%. What costs with Internet erotic have gone up? |

The defense rests. |
I think you need to compare prices against the price of Porn DVD's. If someone is willing to pay $30.00 for a 60 minute movie, then surely membership for one month is worth more if the membership offers plenty of downloads and pictures..

There's nothing mysterious about this at all. Basic Econ 101.
There are two major factors that effect the price of a commodity in an open market. Cost of production and supply vs demand. How many more pay sites are there today vs 5-6 years ago? Lots! Supply has increased at a pace similar demand so no pressure to increase price. At the same time hardware and bandwidth costs have declined significantly, so no pressure from production cost to increase price. |
If everyone agrees the cost of some internet related things have gone down, then you could look at it as tho prices have gone up. Well with-in a profit margin they did. I agree with Ramster when he says people are willing to pay a certain amount for certain things. It's like camshows. A cam host can only charge so much before they start losing customers. But everyones points are all very strong.

Supply and demand.
Actually in the beginning we could have charged much more because Internet porn was new and rare. Probably could have easily gotten away with legitimately charging 50, 60 or maybe even 69.95 a month for a good site with regular updates. Too much supply to do that today. |
Im pretty sure im out of my flibin mind asking such a simple question, but why has the amount of free porn increased instead of decreased?
Like Toby and BV said its Supply and Demand. Why can't we control the supply to increase the demand? Or is this out of our control? All this relates back to the price of membership and the people who are willing to buy them because they cant get just what they need. |
It's cheaper to give away free porn now than it was in the past. There is more content and bandwidth is cheaper. Linklists and TGPs are constantly demanding more and better due to competition as well...

I have a sell phones shop(real not online) for some time and saw that when everything goes up (gas, food, electricity etc) people from that biz thinking the way - "there is an inflation an people have less money so I'll sell cheaper", and that was wrong, really wrong - the most of them goes out of the biz. I used to buy a cover for mobiles for 0.50$ in 2002 and sell it for 5$, in 2006 I was still buying it for
0.50$ but selling it for 2.5$ - 3$; in 2002 people was buying this covers and they were glad, when the price goes down they used to say "do you have better quality covers?" It some kind of humanity to think that expensive things are better than cheaper ones; so i thing that if user is choosing between 24$ and 35$ for 1 month access he will probably apply for 35$ because of the "quality"; and maybe if someone makes a program with 50$ for 1 month access he will sell better than others |

How can you control that? |

Yeah I know this but I meant more in the way of how many images we allow on link list and tgp sites. Allowing them to see the money shots. Theirs no tease anymore theirs just free unlimited access to what’s in the pay site. We need something in there that they haven’t seen so then they will want to buy. Like I said "Im pretty sure im out of my flibin mind" :D |

If you guys are complaining about "too much free porn", why not build tgp2 galleries? Lately, I've stumbled on the same kind of threads on different boards, yet no one has mentioned tgp2. Is that heresy or simple ignorance?
|
I thought tgp2 was a good thought but it failed. It doesn't really work unless everyone does it. For every good TGP owner that is willing to give it a shot there would be 100 looking at it as an opportunity to cash in...
|
Instead of upping the price, you improve retension. You'll end up making much more in the long run, because paying $30 a month 20 months straight is more tolerable than paying $100 bucks a month for 2 months.
Case 1: $600 total Case 2: $200 |
i agree wit jhonnydoe on this one...
