Link Lists - Forgotten Why?
Heya, my first ever post here .. well this url anyway :)
I did something I haven't done in YEARS! I built a free site and HAND submitted to over 200 LL's. Which brings me to the point of this post .. Have Link List webmasters forgotten the reasons why they opened a link site? I am starting to think so with many of the LL sites I visited. A well built ultra clean free site should not be a exercise in walking across hot coals to get listed. Even getting to the submit form in some cases is a hellish exercise. Whats google going to find stronger, LL with 1000 return links, or LL with 10000 return links? A link list is about lots of links? No? you need as many links as you can get your hands on IMHO ... so why make it so hard to build your LL? I can't help but think many webmasters have forgotten why they built a link list. |

Aside from having trouble finding some of the submit pages :D what rules did you come across that you thought were out of line?

hi there ponygirl, been the same answers for over a decade now, you missed my point |huh
SheepGuy thanks mate, I don't like posting this work on boards for many reasons, but I've added your LL to my list and you'll get some submits (about once a week) |boobies| GG is that a leading Q or what |shocking| OK .. I have two pet hates .. 1) I love gmail .. the only spam free addy I've ever had .. a webmasters best friend IMHO .. and I can't let my server deal with that |bullshit| anymore (yes I pay for my own hosting and have unlimited email) .. so I now use gmail .. this is a problem for many sites, including link-o-rama.com .... grr 2) Enforced cat recip link .. mate this is a nightmare for webmasters that work in more than one or two niches |banghead| .. I think it will knock LL's out of some very good webmasters list because its to difficult to deal with |

As to category recips, been that way for a long time now. With a bit of organization, not all that difficult to keep up with either, since the vast majority of link sites have no problems with well crafted custom recips. Some like myself, actually prefer custom recips...providing the anchors remain intact. There was a time I was submitting 3 sites/day across 3 niches...wasn't all that horrible to keep up with recip changes, because anchors in recips only change rarely. Frankly, those are pretty 'soft' complaints in the big scheme of things. Yes, the learning curve in the beginning can be a bit arduous. But once learned, it's not tough at all to build free sites that are accepted nearly anywhere :) |

I think both these issues have been addressed by Receptor & MrYum, but let me add.... 1 - There was a time when free email addy's were allowed, but like a lot of things that have legit uses, it was abused by a number of people. It's just easier for LL owners to track down people that use an email address on a domain that they own. 2 - It's a bit of a shitty reason, but you really should be looking at the recips every now & then anyway & grabbing the coding from the pages as you never know when someone like me will do a mass search & replace on the recips (like I did 4 days ago) & change something in all of them :) |
Are you the old Wazdom? I haven't seen that nick in a while.
You do seem to be an aussie. Yeah, things have changed a lot, from the old days. |
Waz - LTNS :)
Didnt I see a submit come in a few days back from you? Or maybe my mind is getting old like the rest of me |jester| |

havent seen the name in years either. I was away for a while as well and am trying to get used to the way things are now as well.
Category recips instead of the old "other link lists" page or the standard site name link on freesites. It does take some getting used to at first, but if you make enough templates and seperate them by niche and have them all ready with proper recips, you shouldn't have a problem. Things have changed alot since 2000 or so and although different, it just takes a little extra time and some extra work to do it and since when are we afraid of a little extra work :) |
also, i have my .com email forwarded to a different address that works great for spam. That was a great suggestion posted above and should be your answer.

Bill .. yep this is the same ole Wazdom .. been offline for nearly two years building offline business interests .. love webmastering, can't keep away |crazy|
Yep Linkster that would probally be me, using my real name for submits Receptor & MrYum good advice on email .. cheers |thumb Preacher don't feel bad, the list is a oldie, being updated .. and 200 is nothing .. you should see my tgp list |boobies| GG I didn't really want to answer your question, because the thread changed into a rookie getting told how it is .. and not what the thread was meant .. which is .. in very simple english .. the movement in the LL game is making it increasingly difficult to get link ups. Perhaps I am noticing it more because of my break. But this is my opinion from my recent interaction with LL's. I am not LL bashing, quite the opposite, just pointing out a trend I noticed :D |

Hell, message boards actually make you register before you post now :D It's probably just a normal progression that people barely notice because they see the changes in real time, but to you, it's a bit Rumplestilskinish. If you do have any questions as far as my rules go, please let me know & I'll do my best to answer them :) |
