Oh JOY ! First freesite & first rejection !

Hi :D
I made and submitted my first freesite on Jan. 25th, it was quickly accepted by Greenie & FuckingBeaver (less than 1 day), Smutgremlins (1 day), Adult-List & Smut Links (3 days).

But today i see an email from a fairly well known linklist's webmaster (i don't think it's neccesary to reveal his nickname here):

Quote:

Please carefully read the rejection reason stated below.
I have attempted to make these reasons quite clear.

Sorry Mutant, but I think you're going to find that very few...if any...link sites will accept sub-domains.
What ??????? Why ???????

What i think is strange here is that there is no such rule in that linklist's rule page and i'm definitely not blind ! |confused|
I even used "ctrl+f" to make sure that there was no such words as "sub-domain" or "subdomain". |banghead|

I created a subdomain "free.mysite.com" only because i wanted to have additional & completely separate statistics just for all my freesites: clean and not polluted with visitors from my main site (people coming through my signature link from various adult webmaster boards etc).
For me this freesite thing is just an experiment for now so i simply don't want to spoil my data.

So what now ?
Can i remove that linklist's recip from my freesite or what ?

Yes, of course. I'm rather surprised that anyone accepted a free site on a subdomain since there has been a fair amount of discussion on that very topic. Also, there are many rules that are known in the community, yet not in writing at most link lists. Hell, my own written rules are very brief. Not my fault if the submitter is not experienced enough to know the rest. ;)

Search>"subdomain">Link Lists & Getting Listed

Excluding this one there are only 3 threads between my join date (12-17-2006) and now.

It's you writing one line of text vs me reading ~1000s of posts and accidentally finding this info ! |loony| :D ;)

And I could go on, but it's not my responsibility to educate you. (Try expanding your search to 'Newbies' and there have been plenty of mentions of subdomains being declined within the individual link lists' rejection threads.)

Do you intend on creating a new thread for every free site which gets declined, and then argue with those who are trying to help you, or do you intend on learning from your mistakes? Again, it's your duty to learn about the business - it's not ours to teach you. I don't want to sound callous, but there are tons of new people constantly entering this business. We don't have time to spoon feed each individual.

You missed my wink ! :D Smile and be happy ! |jester|

btw. What stops you (or any other LL owner) from adding "no freesites on subdomains" to your rule page ?
Why not filter out all newbies who are not aware of this secret insider rule before they even submit ?

MrYum 2007-02-01 11:20 AM

Yup, the culprit was me :D

As UW has so eloquently put it, there are so many thread about subdomains, it's one of those things that pretty much considered common knowledge...which is why it's not on my rules page.

Also, that's why you got an email from me explaining why your site was declined. I recognized your nic from the board, so wanted to make sure you were aware that subdomains are a problem with most lists.

That said, of course...if you intend to keep using them, by all means remove my site from your submit list. And of course, feel free to yank the recip from the site you submitted...no problemo here :)

Mutant

Instead of jumping down people's throats, you should be grateful that established webmasters are prepared to give their time to helping you.

Mr Yum rejected your site for a valid reason and took the trouble to send an Email explaining his reasons.
One of the lessons we all have to learn is to accept rejection and learn from it. :)

Its true that there are a lot of rules, but you'll get used to them very quickly. Your choice now is to follow the rules and have more sites accepted because if you don't they'll continue to be rejected.

I think my gratefulness and general good humor are lost in translation. |cry| ;) :D

I was just surprised to hear that i was rejected for following all his rules (why was i accepted by LLs bigger than MrYums ? ) except the one that was not even on his rule page. |loony| :D

Thats all, thank you for your time |bow| <-- see i'm grateful ! :)

maybe they accepted you because they know you from this board and like your site, linksites can skip their own rules, yes there was alot of talking about "no free sites on subdomains", the lists i review wont list them either but its not on the rules page because its a known rule , newbies can find those things out by exploring and reading the boards instead of building free sites right away, so much to learn.... , hang around, read, ask, learn and you will get there:)

rachelo 2007-02-01 06:44 PM

Mutant,

I don't think you ignoring or taking Mr. Yum's links down is such a good idea. His advice on free sites and helping you get better at building them is absolutely golden. Listen, adapt and learn.

Actually, if I were to guess...I'd suspect it was a simple whoops. Yes, reviewers are human too and we do sometimes make mistakes. Sometimes things slip through that we wouldn't normally approve.

Your sub-domain almost slipped past me, which I'll leave a mystery as to why it almost got by. But trust me, very few link sites will accept sub-domains...it's yet another thing that was ruined long ago by the scammers and cheats in the business.

Oh, and just for you...notice item #14 :D

http://www.free-porn-post.com/submis...ebmasters.html

Upon further thought, it's really no big deal to throw that one extra hyphenated word on the rules list...so there ya have it :)

SaucyPanties 2007-02-02 03:32 AM

Mutant why question the decision to not list you when they gave a reason? |crazy| It was good that you got a reply and you know now why to either not submit to Mr Yum with sub domains or make the changes he requires and submit again... If he had said "Sorry your submission was declined" with no reason given you would have been |confused|

I like rules about as much as the next person and probably about as much as the people who write them but rules are for one reason only, to keep a level playing field. Link lists owners need our submssions, we need their traffic, my worse fear is rejection without a reason, if I am given a reason it's cool, I have two choices, I can 'think' fuck you I am not doing that don't bother listing me then or I make the changes and say there you go is that good enough...

Or maybe they thought that i was too new to know that subdomains are easier to use for cheating. |confused|

ps. The "Subdomain Pitfall" lesson learned - i will use my main domain for freesites in the future (first i'll finish gathering data from this "experiment" - i have to know if it is worth my time to create freesites).

blumblumshub 2007-02-05 05:05 PM

Ahhhhh crap, just used a subdomain for my freesite HAHA!

Oh well, you live and learn, eh? I've been away from boards for far too long :)
