Linking a blog

Ok this is my first experience in looking at linking up a blog. I ran into a couple of road blocks and if anyone can assist let me know.
What I found when looking for linktrades was required link codes on some blogs look like the links for the front page of a free site link table. Great for free sites and tgps but eeks they don't quite fit in the format of my blog|badidea| .
Second was types of blogs it is tough to find the right link trades to make since mine depends heavily on text links and occasional thumb gallery links and is very wordy, it is not a splog and linking with one would probably not benefit either of us.
So....|banghead| any assistance in the right direction to take would be greatly appreciated.

Contact the owner of a blog and ask if it's ok to have recip link that suits your linking style. It will usually be enough.

As for "right" trades, you just need to look for them all the time. Blogs like yours are not usual cookie cutter thumb-post blog and there are many of those around. Try seaching in some blog directories for start.

I will do exactly that. You would think that attempting a non cookie cutter blog would make linking easier but in fact it has made it more difficult for a newcomer to the world of blogging.

easier it is, but in a long run, you'll get much more traffic (and income) from search engines, "legitimate" links to your posts, bookmarkers and people who comment on your blog and participate. Much better than page rank "boost" of 1 from 20 cookie cutter blogs.

("legitimate links"=links to your posts which other bloggers liked)

btw, while we are at the topic, your "Friends List" anchor links to a sponsor and not to your friends blogs list.

Actually, with the type of blog you have your probably going to have to make a choice between linking to sites within the same niche but of lower quality or linking to sites of an equal quality but not niched.

My personal preference is always linking to the higher quality sites regardless of niche (as long as they are adult themed) and there are a few of those type of blogs owners running around this forum. Take a look at some peoples sig's and what not and see if they have blogs and then you could try contacting them...and the people they link to.

To give you a jump start, I would recommend Simon, PonyGirl, Sue, Tigermom and Virgohippy as good places to start.

I found much of the same problem- While my first blog attempt is geared to letting the niche community know what's new across 7 of our sites, we did want to have some link trades to pull in a bit of fresh traffic and back links.
What I ended up doing was creating a section specifically for these links, and a second section named 'friends' which is for links that I genuinely like, and think that my surfers may as well, regardless of whether or not they link back. http://www.balloondirectory.com

I think you'll find most LL's are usually okay with your changing the recips slightly to fit your site. Usually that is..:)

I do have to say, Chimera is trying to do it right, good to see for a change..:)
