I need help with htaccess

Hi scripting gurus... I am a complete scripting novice even though I have been around for years heh heh

I have a directory on one of my domains that I want to password protect. It isn't a members area or anything like that, just a place where I keep something I would prefer not everyone see.

so here is what I need to be able to do... protect that one directory while the rest of them remain open and where I can add or delete a username password without having to encrypt anything. Does anyone know how I can do that simply?

thanks for any help

Just create a .htaccess that looks like this:

AuthUserFile /full/path/to/.htpasswd
AuthName "Please Log In"
AuthType Basic

and upload it to the folder you want to secure.

Then create a .htpasswd file. in that file you need to define your username and encrypted password. It should look something like:

username:Encryptedpassword

You can create this encrypted password on this page: http://www.xcite.net/resources/index.html (FTP based .htpasswd Line Generator)

then upload the .htpasswd file to the location you specified in your .htaccess file mentioned earlier.

I hope this makes a little sense?
