No Security with Affliate Sites????
Ok well i was goin to sign up for a few affilate sites to try and get this adult thing goin. However almost all I went on want my SSI#. Ok for taxes cool, BUT every site was not secured. No HTTPS, no lock nothing!
Why would anyone put there personal info on a non secure site??? Is this norm with adult sites?? |
Yes.
It's always shocked me too. Yet, it is the norm. I'm always watching for a case of affiliate identity theft. But, it seems rare, if it has ever happened. I don't know of a truly confirmed case. |
Yes as Bill said it is the rule. But slowly I have been noticing some changes where more use SSL. It is especially troublesome when traveling where you may use unencrypted WIFI spots to check stats. Your password and username goes over the clear and then anyone sniffing can get into your account!
One option is to set up an encrypted channel (SSH tunnel, SSL Proxy, etc) going to your own server and then run from the server to the site. This can help, especially when using WIFI. However the part from the server to the destination would still be in the clear. |
Wow...with so much "money" on the line the LEAST they could do is have some sort of security....this alone makes me not want to go any further....

Form a company & get a Fed ID number :)

I've never heard of any problems anyone has encountered but still it should be secure.
