Length of listing question.

How long do most of you link list owners keep a free site listing on our site?

I know alot of link lists don't keep it listed forever.

Thanks in advance for the response.

With me you are pretty on there forever unless my bot pulls you because your domain goes down or you do something shady.

Like you said in your own post each place is different.

DangerDave 2004-01-17 09:24 PM

Lifetime for me...

... or till the bot tells me to kill you. :D

what software do you use for your bot? Or is it custom made?

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get my script to put listings on my site. Taking em off never crossed my mind. Sounds like a lot of work. :)

Works really well. I can have it show up as any user agent that I want. For extra fun I run it from IP addresses that no one will have by visiting coffee shops. :)

hey cleo - that link checker looks great but is there a non mac version? or a comparable proggy for windows?

and BTW lucky - mine is lifetime (unless what everyone else said LOL) doesnt even get put back in the archives either... all my links randomize each time i update so really old sites come to the front every now and again and new-ish sites get put on the last page of the category sometimes, the only time they are in one spot is for ten days while they are new and they are at the top of the list :)

What he said.

You would have to ask the PC users of this board, I think there is a few, what link list checker they use.

Other then that there is always this solution. :D

lucky482 2004-01-17 10:31 PM

Since the software cleo said is only for mac I went to google to search for "link checker software" and this site came up 2-3 position.

You have to keep a sense of humor when your OS of choice is questioned daily by users of the Microsoft gas cloud. |jester|

Anyway back to link checkers…

I actually preferred the one that I used back in the Mac Classic OS days, but the developer has never updated it for Mac OS X and I don't want to load up Classic just to run a link checker.

But what I would really like to have is a bot that ran on the server and then I could just use Cron to run it at odd hours. Even better if it was completely automatic like the one my TGP script has that also automatically removes or bans depending on what I set it up to do.

Actually this is what will happen when I get around to upgrading my LL script. It's real high on my to do list, just got to get around to it. LOL

For me, assuming that the bot doesn't get you (be that the Link Bot of MrMaryLou aka The Human Bot - LOL) & assuming that you have updated your site in the last 6 months, your listing will be forever.

Fonz 2004-01-18 11:53 AM

GG, how can you see that the site is updated in the last 6 months? Do you and MML have a photographic memory? :)

MrMaryLou 2004-01-18 12:06 PM

We have vays of finding out :)

Greenguy 2004-01-18 12:27 PM

Ancient Chinese Secret :D

Actually, the Link Bot tells us :)
