WP plugins
I know there have been lots of WP plugin lists, but I put this together tonight for someone and there may be others who will get something from it. All of these work together and with the latest version of WP.
Archivist Selects a defined number of (random) posts from the archive and shows them on the front page. Useful for giving old posts a new lease of life. Bad Behavior Deny automated spambots access to your PHP-based Web site (use even when comments are closed) Breadcrumb Breadcrumb navigation for WordPress Chicklet Creator Add feed subscription buttons to your blog Dagon Design Sitemap Generator Generates a "traditional" customizable sitemap containing all posts and pages Disable autop Is the plugin to use if you find Wordpress adding unwanted paragraph tags to your posts. Feedburner Feed Replacement Forwards all feed traffic to Feedburner while letting through some important User-Agents. Using Feedburner gives you the benefit of being in their directory, formats your feeds to make them readable by more feed readers and their free pinging service takes some of the load off your server. Google (XML) Sitemaps This generator will create a sitemaps.org compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported By Google, MSN Search and YAHOO Optimal Title Mirrors the function of wp_title() exactly, but moves the position of the ’separator’ to after the title rather than before, making your titles more readable to surfers browsing SE results. PingFix Enhances (and replaces) the built-in ping/notify functionality. Pings only when publishing new posts, not when editing. Pings future-dated posts when they appear on the blog, not when they are published (use with WP-Cron which despite comments on its site is not obsolete for use with this plugin) Random Posts Displays a random list of posts as another way of getting surfers to older posts (the version I use is currently offline, but others should be available via Wordpress ] Extend ] Plugins). Related Posts Returns a list of the related entries based on active/passive keyword matches and is a good navigation tool for visitors (same problem as random posts) . Sociable Automatically add links on your posts to popular social bookmarking sites Spam Karma combined with Bad Behavior (above) will allow comments to be open and unmoderated without a site being plagued with spam. It is not needed if comments are closed. Tags in the Head A simple plugin to use UTW tags as META Keywords in your HEAD Ultimate Tag Warrior Ultimate Tag Warrior is a tagging plugin, that’s heavy on tag visualisation. wp-cache Very fast cache module. It’s composed of several modules, this plugin can configure and manage the whole system. MAKE SURE IT IS ACTUALLY WORKING OR IT WILL SLOW YOUR SITE DOWN! eAccelerator is a free open-source PHP accelerator, optimizer, and dynamic content cache. It increases the performance of PHP scripts by caching them in their compiled state, so that the overhead of compiling is almost completely eliminated. It also optimizes scripts to speed up their execution. eAccelerator typically reduces server load and increases the speed of your PHP code by 1-10 times. Server techs usually install this: it is not a Wordpress plugin. |
Wow thanks for sharing as usual :)

Great list!
Another one I like is the WP-Backup, despite all the drama about it I find it works fine. |

"Related Posts" is one of the most useful plugins for encouraging surfers to stay on your site. The author's site has been offline for a while now, but I just found another location for the download: http://wasabi.pbwiki.com/Related%20Entries
And since I'm writing again, I may as well throw in a couple of other notes, the first about Ultimate Tag Warrior... When WP 2.1 came along, it marked some significant changes in data structure, with which UTW was none to happy. Both scripts then went a couple of versions which didn't cooperate. However, I just updated my tutorial site and I have WP 2.1.3 running quite happily alongside UTW 3.14159265, so if you have run into any problems in the last few months, that combination should resolve them. Hopefully people validate their sites. Depending on your doctype, if you use the "Chicklet Creator" plugin I mentioned above, you might find the author has coded some of the image attributes in a way which throws validation errors. It is perfectly okay to go into his plugin file and modify the codes to clear such errors. The file is not large and the fixes are easy to figure out and apply. |
