Managing Free Site Traffic Stats

I currently use Google Analylics to manage my blog and hub site traffic, but curious as to how you all check and manage your free site traffic stats?

I havn't used Google Analyics for free sites cause I saw some sites don't like to see script code in there so for now, have been using awstats from my host.

Is there a better way to check my free site traffic? Is it okay to use Google Analyics for that?

I don't build free sites but....

I've always found the margin of error to great with things like "analytics" and "statcounter" to really draw accurate conclusions from. (The last time I checked they seemed to both be about 30% inaccurate).

If you need statistics not available from awstats or webalizer, I would recommend looking at some programs that can analyze your raw server logs.

I have awstats on my server, and while it may not be the best stats program, it's plenty 'nuff for me to get the general idea of what's happening and where my traffic is coming from. Frankly I've become a lot less anal about (server) stats and I only tend to check once in a while these days.

So from what im hearing so far is that awstats is pretty decent for checking free site stats.

Good to know :)

Or you could try StatCounter at
http://www.statcounter.com/
which offers an Html only option.

I use webalizer but I'm not anal about checking it all the time.

google or aw are perfectly fine for general tracking if your not worried about knowing exactly were every single hit came from and what it did.

if you are anal about tracking your visitors then downloading and parsing the raw server logs locally would probably be your best bet.
