Which is the best stradegy...
 

I've been submitting lots of free sites, and I find 80% of my traffic comes from about 4 or 5 link list. Should I stick with a good thing and always submit to those, or keep branching out. I'm in my second month of submitting, so I'm sure there's plenty of ground I have not covered.

And on a related note, can you wear our your welcome submitting to the same list all the time?

People have been arguing about that for years. Way back, on greenys first board, I said it only made sense to submit to the top traffic sources, because 95% of your sales will come from them - I nearly got burned at the stake by all the smaller linklist owners.

Those statistics are still mostly true - but there's no reason not to submit to a larger group of linklists. In effect, build a submitting relationship with a group of linklists that list you reliably, that you have come to trust.

It's fine to submit regularly to the same linklists - but, they will like you more if you submit across a spectrum of niches. They don't want a niche page overwhelmed with sites from one webmaster.

I think submitting to an "extra" group or two is a good way to sniff out traffic sources, even if it is only occasionally. It's always nice to get a pleasant surprise few have discovered yet. |thumb

What you want to keep in mind is that different niches get the most traffic from different sites. I do story sites and get similar traffic from the big guys as well as some of the smaller sites. When i do lesbian sites, different link lists give me a majority of the traffic.

I also did an amateur site and noticed that the majority of traffic to that site came from what might be considered a smaller link list even though it's been around forever.

I was submitting to 85 link lists and after checking stats found that about 95-98% of my sales came from only two recip groupings. I was going to only submit to those two but after posting here and getting some feedback I decided to "spread the love around" and submit to the link lists that have a presence here at GG&J. (I have 2-3 that don't post here much) I came up with 45 that I had been submitting to already and getting listed. My recip tables have 3 rows and 3 columns so I have 9 recips/table. I make a site and 4 mirrors which works out fine for me.

Just remember that any single hit is a potential sale. Besides, those small link lists grow, and can grow big some day.
