How do I get rid of programs on startup?

How do I get rid of programs when I start my computer?

For some reason, I'm getting programs that I never use opening on startup (which are only taking up RAM).

How do I get rid of them and the programs that show up on my task bar?

for windows
go to
start/run and type msconfig
go to the startup tab and it shows all programs that start when your computer does
**CAUTION**
be sure you know what you are removing before you do**

The gist is that you can use MSCONFIG, Delete the shortcuts from the Startup folder (just right click them), or sometimes the programs themselves can be configured/disabled to run at startup.

I know what a pain in the ass RealPlayer is. They try to trick you when you go to disable the startup. |angry|

You can also go into the registry- but wouldn't advise unless you are comfy in doing that.

Start->RUN-> type 'msconfig' without quotes. Click OK.

Click the StartUp tab. Uncheck the proggies you don't want starting.
