Text and Custom Recips Tables

I was thinking of using a text type recip table on some submissions. I think they look nice and organized, and do not distract from the overall theme of the site.

As a link list owner, do you have a preference? As a submitter, do you realize any noticible advantages..better sales, traffic, etc?

I know some list do not allow anything other than the official recip table, and it's probably best not to mix text and graphic recips...but assuing rules are folllowed and you do a neat job with the layout, what is your opinion?

I only use text recips and never had a problem with any submissions.
Like you said, they blend in with the site design.

I'm easy as an LL owner, hell, I'm easy in a lot of ways ;)
I like custom recips when I'm on a recip table with 11-23 other LL's, buttons for less.
It really doesn't matter though, as long as my recip is there and the site doesn't break rules I list it. It really does look like shit though when a site has tons of multi-colored blinking recips, I would think it takes away from the freesite's sales potential.

Ditto. What SG said. |headbang| |potleaf|

I always use text recips and never had a problem. I do make sure that the recips are along the general color theme, but I also make sure they don't blend in too much, as in have clear colors for the fonts etc. I just think it's fair to the LL's to have prominent links on the page.

oldbrad 2007-08-25 02:28 AM

I always use text links, i think they look better and can blend in much easier. I also don't use doorways, so it makes it easier to use a good amount of recip links without looking too horrid.

I actually prefer custom text recips, even going to far as to use something different than the anchor text I have on my recip page, as long as it's still relevant to the page it's linking to.

Thanlks for all the replies...do you look at the graphic recip and get ideas, or do you just get creative? I'm sure there's probably a happy medium somewhere, but what is the best way to approach it?

EDIT:

here's the first one I have tried...it's is for a Cyberage avs site. Dows it look OK?

Thanks

Recips are about 3 times too large if you ask me. They don't have to take up half the page. :D

I also agree with Spacemans way of thinking. It is more beneficial IMHO for submitters to use their own custom anchor text so that the linklist owner doesn't end up with 10,000 identical recip links pointing to his page.

I'm not trying to call you out or bust your balls, but when you say "I have tried," what does that mean? Does it mean, "here's a recip table I pretty much copied from one of Sheepguy's sites"? :D If he doesn't mind, then I don't care either.

As long as the font color and size are readable by human beings, I'm easily pleased with homemade recips. And I've always liked Sheepy's recips because they are BIG. So many free site builders go out of their way to make the recip text almost unclickably small or use a font color which is far too similar to the background color. Trust us, you aren't losing much traffic on a free site to those recips.

oldbrad 2007-08-25 12:46 PM

I think it looks ok overall. Like Lowry said you could go a little smaller in the table and font size, but i'd list it like that and i doubt you'll be losing any real traffic that way anyway.

I did notice you misspelled amateurs on the infospiral link though, just a heads up.

Brad

SheepGuy 2007-08-25 01:33 PM

Looks good to me, could be a bit smaller, even mine aren't that big ;) And I don't mind the copying. Useless makes a good point about unreadable recips, IMO very tiny recips border on cheating, so do recips that are barely readable due to similar font colors, especially the link fonts.

LD 2007-08-25 02:45 PM

Damn, I am so busted |cry|....SheepGuy did send me an example and I kinda used it as ..... inspsiration. Hey, copy from the best as they say, and I did change the background color...Seriously, should I change the fonts, color, design or anything on the next round?

Thanks for the heads up on spelling, I made it a little smaller and I think it does look a little better, i'll be hitting you guys up with submits shortly :)

Their big because he is blind! And the color balance on his monitor is so far off that he needs rose color glasses to see the world proper - oh wait, maybe he does have the glasses.....

Hey! I resemble that remark! My monitor has a bit of a greenish tint from spending too much time on this board when I should be working :D

I use CSS for styling my recip tables. That way I only have to change a couple of lines in the CSS sheet and the tables take on a different look every time.

Same here but I avoid using css for positioning as it never works right in firefox.

Just did my latest free site using text links and will use them more in the future.

Yep, another vote for custom recips and varying text here |thumb
