Looking for a little direction

I've been building and submitting freesites and a few avs sites for a few months...traffic has increased nicely, thanks to all who list me.

I built a little hub with all my sites. It's fairly simple with all my sites on one page with a navigation box at the top. I would like to expand it, but not sure which direction to go..

1) Maybe just keep building and submitting for now and grow it slowly

2) Start a linklist

3) Make a seperate index for each category and look at hard trades...

4) ???

Regarding the linklist, my humble opinion is that there's already a bunch of 'em, so I am hesitant to start another. Also, I'm not sure if I have the time to do it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. (But I ain't going to work for WalMart...:D )

I do not know how long you have been at this but I will say it is a time issue. This is not the overnight make it rich, or even make a living, that it maybe once was. Keep at it and try to learn more until something clicks for you. As the broken record says, "Just Keep Building"

If you need to get a part time job to make ends meet there is no shame in doing so. I still work occasionally for my last job because they pay great and extra money is always nice plus it is a complete reminder why I slave away at this :D

You could:

1. start a link list on the home page you've got listed.
2. supplement your personal freesites with hosted freesites.
3. use 1 outbound link on your personal free sites to send traffic your way

... however, I understand that it takes some people 2-3 years to make their link lists profitable. I don't have a link list so I can't really say. You 'll have to decide if that is a reasonable and realistic time frame given other ways you could make money (freesites, blogs, galleries, etc).

Go the linklist route. Buying the script will cost you a few hundred dollars if you go for quality and setting everything up takes maybe a week.

Even if you don't open it for submissions you can add your own sites and fill the rest up with hosted freesites and galleries.

Get some backlinks and when/if you decide to open it up down the road it will have matured and hopefully you're getting some SE traffic and making some sales from it.

artwilliams is correct when he says it takes 2-3 years to make any money from a LL, so the sooner you get going the better.

I would suggest setting an hour aside every Saturday for On The Bench.
There's a lot of webmaster wisdom freely shared during that hour

Thanks for all the input. I do work 50-60 hours in a regular job so there are time contraints...I'd love to do this full time, but for now want to do things that might yield the most benefit for a part-timer.

Lemmy, I take it you would not recommend doing the linklist thing manually. (?)

Art (or anyone), on supplimenting my sites with hosted freesites, should I mix them in with mine, or have a seperate section?

JustRobert 2007-09-08 12:44 PM

Ahh, you have a full time job and doing this part time. This is how I started as well so I understand time constraints.

What the others stated I agree with as well. I started doing LL manually and it becomes a pain after awhile. A script will speed up your process of adding/removing sites, categories, sponsors and partners. This is what you need with your schedule.

Mix in your hosted freesites with your own. A lot of lists do this to fill a category page. You can try HFS Links to easily find them plus they also have filler sites too. Has not updated in awhile but still plenty to choose from.

Whatever you decide to do, DO NOT run a link list by hand. I speak from experience. If you decide to start one, spend the money to get a script and do it right from the start.

By the way, I've been in the adult business for going on 10 years now and I'm still waiting for the day I "get rich" (or at least make a decent living) slinging porn. |loony|

I just looked at your site.

When I follow a link to a gallery and clicked "no thanks"
I ended up at Big G

Send that traffic to some place that will make you a few bucks or a traffic trade.

Don't throw it away.

Just a suggestion.

cool tip about the "exit" or "no thanks" link...but I wonder if some list owners might consider this a sneaky way to get an extra outbound link...or a misleading type link. (?)

You shouldn't have any problem sending your exit traffic to a recognised non-adult site. You could try
Prank Place or Warning Pages

I agree with Ladydesigner, do NOT do a link list by hand, you'll waste SO much time it's unreal. Another suggestion, maybe start a niche links list, just a thought.

As far as making money from a links lists, it really depends on how quickly you can build up and keep traffic to it, I don't see it as a time frame. Course just my opinion...:)
