Selecting a billing company service

Hello everyone!

I'm a big time newbie. I'm trying to start a paysite but am stuck at selecting a Internet Payment Service Provider, is that what they are called? A company that will take the customers payments on a membership basis thru credit cards, etc. I am only familiar with them on the customer side since I have myself been a member of many adult websites before.

I started off looking at CCBill and Epoch (which I think was formerly paycom.net) because they seem to be popular amongst the sites I previously was a patron of. CCBill seems to only offer to companies in the USA and Epoch has not returned my email.

So I understand the billing company will charge the customer and then desposit the money, after their percentage of course, to a bank account is that how it works?

At the moment my site isn't a full XXX site, only features models and maybe some nudity. Also, the company is based out of South America.

Would appreciate your help as my partner is increasing the pressure for me to get this done.

Thanks!

I sold my paysites a few years ago, so I'm a little out of it about who the best to use is right now, but I'm thinking, if you're a big-time newbie, why start a paysite? If you're unfamiliar with the way they work, you are at a very bad disadvantage. I didn't start mine until I'd been around a couple of years, and even back in the glory days it was hard to make a buck from running paysites. I would imagine it would be more difficult now.
If you're sitting on a shitload of content there are far easier ways to market it.

Well, I guess I got to learn sometime. The material I'll be offering isn't as common as that which is currently out in the market so I'm fairly confident that it will be a success.

You can use ccbill worldwide, no restrictions there.
Allso take a look at verotal wich does pretty much the same stuff.

....they all are.
No matter how good or special you're content is it will not sell it by itself.
If you are planning on buying traffic to feed you're paysite i doubt you will bother long time with you're site.

However, if you allready know how to create and monotize traffic.....good luck :)

Thanks picXX. I know about CCBill but like I said they only offer to US residents.

Actually, Verotel looks like it might work for me, rates are a bit high. They offer split payment also which works perfect because I have a partner.

I have noticed that CCBill is widely used. I have learned, correct me if I'm wrong, that hey require you to register your business with Visa in order to accept Visa credit card transactions which is something like $750 registration fee and $350 yearly fee.

Looking at Verotel, they offer two account types that do not require the Visa business registration. Something to consider.

Just sharing a little of what I have learned in case other newbies are looking for the same info.

I've used Verotel for several years, even had them sending money to a bank account in Mexico for awhile. You can get started on their free account.
Sheepguy is telling you right running a pay site is a good way to lose money if you don't know what your doing.
On a side note, what Country are you in?

btra fan 2007-10-09 01:55 PM

I'm in Peru, South America. That's one reason I didn't go with CCBill, I think they only provide to US based merchants.

CCBill is world wide, one thing you have to factor in is it is next to impossible to get affiliates with Verotel, much easier with CCBill.
So if you go Verotel you will be the only person promoting your site, so you have to have a way of generating traffic to the site.

I would strongly recommend that you become an affiliate of a program first and learn how to generate traffic as an affiliate before you invest in a pay site

btra fan 2007-10-09 03:47 PM

I'm sorry but what exactly is an affiliate in this sense and how does CCBill promote your site?

Frankly I have been more worried about finding a good merchant service and I don't know anything about sending traffic to my site or buying traffic what ever that's all about. I figured I could just network with other sites that provide similar content and exchange banners and also network with blogs who provide free content and get our site mentioned on there and so forth.

What I first meant to say about CCBill is that when you fill out the application they only have "United States" as a choice for your country of origin?

Ramster 2007-10-09 04:21 PM

CCBill only offers processing to US residents yes.

Based on your above statement "I don't know anything about sending traffic to my site or buying traffic what ever that's all about" then I suggest you do not spend a lot of money on the site itself until you learn how to generate and send traffic to your site or learn what and how to buy it. Banner exchanges etc are not going to send much traffic.

CCBill doesn't promote your site, you promote your site, and affiliates promote your site if you choose to have an affiliate program. CCBill does provide an affiliate program.

You really would do best to spend a year or two promoting other paysites. A great way for new adult webmasters to get started is blogging and creating free sites. If you don't know what any of this is, then just slow down and take the time to learn it. It takes time but the resources to learn are all around you here and other places. I wish I had started with more knowledge a few years back when we started with our paysites, we would have started much better than we did. Not that we did bad, but you can always do better. Its a lot of work.

the very best thing that you can do is have more than one processor. But in reality, you are missing a big amount of money if you do not have ccbill.

Choke out the 750 its well worth it.

What are those ways? I have some content (exclusive, original, POV/teen niche) but currently it's not enough to start a paysite. Roughly 30 (some of them still unedited) clips and some photosets. What's the best and easy way to pull some money out of it. I'm selling on Clips4sale at the moment but looking for some more/better ways. Any ideas?

Woops my bad Ramster is right about CCBILL

Let me give you something to think about btra fan
I have a pay site Tijuana Whores for every hundred and sixty visitors to my site I make a sale. After Verotel takes their cut I make $17 and change (I make the same on rebills).

Ramster has a pay site Pornstar Legends I'm an affiliate, I make $14.96 per sale or rebill and I know it takes 290 visitors to his site for me to make a sale.
I make much better money per visitor as an affiliate than a pay site owner because I get more a hell of a lot more rebills from Pornstar Legends than Tijuana Whores and Ramster does all the work and pays for all of the content :D

Thanks for the plug and I'm glad to see you're doing well with it. ;)

I really appreciate your replies guys, I think I fully understand this affiliate program system now and the reason everyone recommends that I wait to start up a paysite till I learn more.

First off, I'm not spending much on my site. I do have a shit load of content probably more than 200 movie clips which I can pump out lots of pics from, all produced by myself at no particular cost. Currently I'm only spending money on the web host ($70 for 3 months) and web designer (so far $50) which really isnt much so that's a total of over $100. That's the least, my greatest resource spent is time, editing all the vids is time consuming as producers would know.

Looking at this I don't see how I could really lose money on my site although I do understand that I could make a lot more if I get invloved with an affiliate program as all you have been suggesting.

On that note, do you guys have any affiliates or affiliate networks in mind that I can check out to start getting invloved?

Thanks again all! |waves|

Those two links will cover you on Sponsors and give you a good guestimate on what sites are selling.
When you have something online post the URL and ask for opinions.
good luck
