New Design Opinion

Can you look at this page and let me know what you think of the design?
http://mreros.com/linklist/test-1.html

I need opinions on colors, text size etc. Thanks.

The first thing that hits me is that on a page that appears to be aimed at straight women, your 'eye candy' should be a guy, not a naked women.

As to colours: it seems too clinical to me. You need to get the surfer to feel 'horny' (or perhaps 'romantic'), but your colour scheme looks a bit sterile, like a notice board in a clinic. But I'm not sure what colours work for women, so perhaps in that it is aimed at them, I could be wrong.

If it was my site, I'd go for warmer colours both on the page and on the header (blue is a very 'cold' colour).

Thanks ecchi, at least I got one opinion. :D

The page is just an example of a layout I am working on, and it will be part of a link list, so the category displayed is just a random pick. The eye candy pic will match the category is displayed on, for now is just a place holder.

As far as colors, thanks ecchi, you confirmed what I was thinking, but more than one opinion is always better. I will try for warmer colors.

How about the text, is the size good, easy to read? Layout O.K.?

The layout is perfect. Easy to read and find what you are looking for. The background in your header is all a matter of taste. I thought it was a mainstream site at first glance. Maybe a nice looking babe would work better. :D

You might consider setting a definitive width for the page also. If I resize the screen the "search" at the right of the page wraps and doesn't keep the intended design. Other than that it looks great! |headbang|

It is boring color wise and I mean the background.. and where is Mr Eros? We girls also need horoscopes, silly poems, love emails and a lot of useless but catchy stuff :)|waves|

I am working on a new background. :) Also all the extra stuff will be there after the layout and colors are done.

Thanks for the opinions so far. |thumb

Need more input, more input, more input. |boobies|

I didn't comment on text size because I use a 800 pixel screen width, and although it looks good to me I have no idea what it looks like on a smaller monitor with a wider definition setting.

However I strongly disagree with Maj. Stress' comment "You might consider setting a definitive width for the page". Unless you are standing behind your surfer, you have no idea what size screen definition he has his computer set at, or what size window he is viewing it in. If you fix the page width too narrow, it is going to look silly with everything bunched up either on one side or in the middle of the window, and if you make it too wide, the surfer is going to have to scroll left and right. I used to assume that the only thing surfers found more annoying that that, was a mountain of pop-ups. But I was reading a (non-adult) webmaster site a few months ago, they had done a survey of surfers, and apparently given a choice of having a page wider that their screen, or a non-blockable pop-up, the majority of surfers said that they would rather have the pop-up!

Also 'setting a fixed screen width' usually comes first or second in any list of 'worst newbie mistakes' on the Internet. And my 'professional pride' stops me from doing anything that might get my site listed as an example of a 'crap newbie site'. :)

I like it, has a good look and easy navigation system. You can always change the colour scheme if you want, but the basis look great. |thumb
Did you design it yourself or get a designer involved?

Lemmy 2007-09-15 03:24 PM

I like the muted colors and the clean easy-to-navigate design.

LeRoy 2007-09-15 03:49 PM

I Like the navigation buttons on the left. Kinda like how Preacher has his buttons on a Depraved site I am a big fan of that site btw. As for the color my opinion would be biased because my favorite color is blue.

I took a mainstream free template and modified it. No designer involved, since I don't consider myself a designer. :D

I also like the navigation. The colors, I did like them in the beginning but I am not sure that they would work for a porn site. I think I am going to change them to a warmer palette.
