Question about file sizes

I recently got a few rejection emails from Penisbot and Wetplace saying that the fileseizes of my "thumbs" was too large. I almost always use movies and my "thumbs" are typically around 300x300. If I take the file down to the size they wanted (7-9kb) the picture looks pretty low quality. They way I am reducing the size is by using Photoshop and "save for web." Is there some way to do this that I am unaware of?

I generally try to keep the images between 30-40kb because I figured that was small enough and allowed me to keep the images looking good.

I went and looked at some other pages on those sites and it seems that all the movie thumbs were around 150x150 and pretty low quality- but to me that seems kind of small when you only have 4 or 5 per page with movies.

There has to be something I'm missing here. I'm still pretty new, but I think I have had my freesites accepted to all LLs I submitted to except those 2. Any tips or suggestions?

I use "frame shots" to make my thumbs and keep em around 150. I think it does an excellent job. Cost is not bad either. http://www.frame-shots.com/

300 x 300 is a pretty big thumb. I normally make mine somewhat rectangular in the 220 x 170 neighborhood. I capture with frameshots like Maj.Stress and optimize in PS saving for web like you at 50% quality, and end up in the 7-12 kb range. Never been declined for thumb quality/size.

If your page looks empty fill it up with text.
