Which codec should I be using?
I've been cracking off clips from a few movies today, and then it occured to me that my xvid encoded movies might not be acceptable. I notice a lot of sites using .wmv or .mpg files.
Would clips made in .avi using xvid codecs be acceptable in most places? Let me know. Example: http://fuckflicks.themoviehost.com/f...ckspreview.htm the clips on that gallery. Thanks for any input. -A |badidea| |
mpg or wmv seem to be the only wildly actable formats and personally I only use mpg since it is easy to protect against hotlinking unlike wmv.
My personal favorite movie format is H.264 but we only use that inside of member's areas. |
Can you recommend some software for converting to either mpg or wmv? I'm a virtualdub man, but can't seem to figure out how to get it to output anything other then AVI, and am beginning to think it can't.

If you are running windows there's this tool called Windows Movie Maker that comes standard with it and converts avi to wmv

Being a Mac user I use Episode Pro. It is expensive but it does H.264 really well in addition to mpeg-1.
I hear that Unlead is popular with Windows users. |
Hey fonz, I was doing some wmvs with that windows media maker, but I'm still not sure what's best for mpgs. I did a bit with TMPGenc but the quality is lacking for the file sizes. WMV it is I guess.... I have some work to redo ><
