TGP's...what's the point?

What's the point of posting to TGP's if no one ever signs up with sponsers? Is it worth risking using up my 50GB transfer in my begining stages of this business? Are TGP's good for filtering traffic to your hub/main site?

Another thing...I heard that Asian traffic is hard to convert due to many surfers in asia don't have credit cards...guess that's why ARS and others use dail ins? Is this totally true?

If TGPs weren’t making money then so many people wouldn't be doing them. As with everything, if you know what you're doing you can make money.

Asian traffic being hard to convert is a myth propagated by ignorant webmasters. Obviously if you try and promote an English sponsor to a Japanese surfer you'll never convert BUT if you promote a Japanese sponsor (e.g.: http://click.dtiserv2.com/Click/1039-99-us938) you'll make bank. I should know, I predominantly work in the Asian niche and 1/3 of my traffic comes from Asia.

Sam tgp galleries are a high risk deal not for the faint at heart its a hard game to play but if you do your home work you can make a good buck :)

Cleo 2004-02-02 09:09 AM

There is no point to them. The idea is to see how much BW you can burn as you get as many surfers off as possible.

Mental Ernie AKA Hotlinker 2004-02-02 09:19 AM

If you don't wanna burn lots of bw start out small. Submit only 1-2 galleries to smaller TGP's, see how it goes and build on that.

btw, what is a hub? |confused|

MrMaryLou 2004-02-02 09:23 AM

A hub can be many things a link list of yours a small tgp or yours or just a page that leeds to all your sites/ sponsors sort of a fake link list a place to send your surfers too if they dont buy off your site or gallery to get that second chance sale :)

Ramster 2004-02-02 04:07 PM

Clearly TGPs create sales for people.

But marketing via TGPs is not an easy thing. You have to remember many are returning surfers and savvy surfers so you need to think what sponsors you're marketing and whether you actually make good selling galleries.

It's something that really shouldn't be done until you have a good grasp on what you are doing or you've invested in a dedicated server at say $400/month and are willing to use it and the BW to experiment.

newbie TGP submission questions

I'm new to this, but from my reading it sounds like TGP submission can be unprofitable because the conversion rate of that type of traffic is so low that the bandwidth can cost more than you make from the surfers. And if you submit to something like The Hun successfully, it can be an awesome amount of traffic you receive.
So I'm wondering if you can submit the hosted galleries that sponsors offer? Will TGPs list them?
Or what about free bannerless hosting, though as far as I can see you can only promote the sponsors' program on those sites?
In both cases you're using the sponsors' content and bandwidth. Sounds like a no-risk proposition.
Or do the TGPs want unique content? Or they don't mind the sponsors' content, but it would be a miracle if you were the first one to submit it to them, since everyone does it? Or maybe the TGPs make their own galleries for that free content so that their affiliate codes go in it?

So I'm trying to figure out this TGP submission stuff, and any answers to these questions would be appreciated.

Hi GregBoston |waves|

You can find the answers to all your questions in numerous threads on the various boards here. To sum up briefly TGP owners use the free hosted galleries and will not take them from others. As for using sponsor hosting that is allowed in some cases.

Your best bet is buy a domain and get some little used content and start building free sites. Converting TGP traffic has become an art form for the most part.

Ramster 2004-02-06 08:48 AM

You cannot submit the sponsor galleries. And TGPs usually want fresh content because many get more submissions than they can list daily. Some sponsor content is ok like single girl sites but the big boys like NastyDollars, OxCash, TopBucks and others will rarely get listed.

would this tgp get sign ups?

Just need some feedback/review of my latest tgp post. Would this get sign ups with the right traffic? As of yet...I haven't be able to get any from the tgps I'm listed on. http://www.asian-bliss.com/asiancravings/tgp110.html

Sam

Ramster 2004-02-08 04:21 PM

I don't think you'll get any signups. That gallery is very confusing. It doesn't say anything about the paysite at all!!

When making a gallery, you should "present" the paysite to the surfer. Talk about it. Tell what it has. Then the punch is the $1 cost. Frankly right now the surfer isn't going to click because he has no idea what he's going to see.

You have to Convince him to click the banner!!

Surfn 2004-02-08 05:23 PM

What Ramster said.

sam 2004-02-08 05:38 PM

Hey Ramster,

Thanks for the help. I changed the wording and discribed the site a bit. How's this: http://www.asian-bliss.com/asiancravings/tgp110.html ?

TrafficFreak 2004-02-08 11:22 PM

My 2 cents on this issue: The time you put into making a TGP and getting it submitted could be much better spent creating pages for Search Engines and this would be better traffic than TGP will ever be

sam 2004-02-09 12:05 AM

Problem is I'm not getting any SE traffic...Is it only a matter of the right keywords on your index page? I've been trying different keywords with no luck. What's should I be working on to get SE traffic? any info would greatly appreciated.

thx
