The Biggest Game Of The New Year Is Tuesday At 1:00 PM

That's right - set your alarm clocks so that you can get up by 1:00 PM EST on Tuesday & watch the ICE BOWL on NBC!

The NHL's 1st Winter Classic between the Buffalo Sabres & the Pittsburgh Penguins will be played outdoors at Ralph Wilson Stadium on New Years Day.

Please do me a favor & watch it - you'll enjoy this game :)

(after the game is over, you can then turn on useless College Bowl games that determine nothing)

PS - if anyone cam stream the live boradcast online, Murray would like to watch the game from the comfort of his home in Austrailia :D

Should be a good one for sure! I remember a couple of years back, when Montreal and Edmonton had an outdoor game. It was the last time Gretzky suited up and was an awesome game!

I remember that game. :) Boy, do I feel old now.
I hope this is going to be just as good, it should.

I remember watching that one as well - it was silly cold that day. Really cool to see Theodore wearing a wool hat over his goalie mask :D

Jim 2007-12-30 08:45 AM

I'm told that we won't be watching :) The big TV will probably be busy with the Twilight Zone marathon. :)

Ramster 2007-12-30 09:06 AM

I'll be tuning in for that game. Should be a good one to see.

They haven't updated this in a few days, but here's how you turn a football field into a hockey rink :)

NY Jester 2007-12-31 01:43 PM

Thats pretty wild. Ive never been to a pro hockey game altough Ive seen many a high school games as my step son is a back-up goalie for his school.

Ive been to a couple Bills games though, friends in East Aurora, they were always fun in the balmy Buffalo winters. This should be a good game. I'll tune in from time to time.

Greenguy 2007-12-31 05:19 PM

If you have The NHL Network, there's a 2.5 hour special on tonight about tomorrow's game (but only watch the 1st 30 min as it's mostly the teams practicing)

You'd think that growing up in MN I'd know all about hockey, but I really only know as much as GG has tipped me onto.

Granted I'm guessing there are several thousand open air ice rinks in MN atm, but where I grew up, and where I live now is too small to support a high school team. (hence BB is my winter sport of choice)

GG - If the field is crowned - as it should be - the ice in on side has to be nearly "I can drive my truck on this thick". (nearly 12" for those who don't get ice) Unless my math is wrong on the size of the rink - which would bring it back to "I can snowmobile on this" range, 6-7".

I'll be watching this one! - that, because I have nothing else to do with my life... sorry UW :D

They actually covered how they solved that issue on the news the other day (there's a sand base under the ice that is level)

We're heading out for the pre-game festivities in about an hour.

LET'S GO BUFF-A-LO!

You were right. I haven't followed hockey much since Stan Mikita played for the Blackhawks. And that was a fun game to watch with all the snow and wind. The players looked like they were having fun too. :D

I agree that was a fun game to watch!
Holes in the ice actually made sense, switching ends mid period, a frozen Zamboni, goalies with stocking caps. |thumb

I was surprised that my lovely wife reminded me of the game. Always fun to see Buffalo get beat no matter what the sport :)

Greenguy 2008-01-02 03:52 PM

I'm a bit slow moving today after all the fun from yesterday, but I am copying pics from my camera as I type, so give me an hour & I'll have some pics from the game up.

Here ya go :)

Nice pics. The game was great to watch though a little slower than a normal NHL game. The snow made it a classic for sure.

Hell yeah it was slow! They brought the zamboni's out once or twice during each period (they only do that between periods for those newbies that watched) and those sink holes in the ice slowed things done a lot.

I wish there was more scoring, but the NHL got to see their wet dream come true with Crosby scoring the winning goal in a shoot-out.

National ratings are not our yet, but the games had a 38.1 rating locally & that's impressive seeing as 40-50K of the people that would normally watch the game on TV were there (74,000 in attendance)
